Default Rear tire selection

I would like to replace the rear tires on my 02 SS Camaro for this upcoming season. Iam currently running 17x9.5 OE Z06 wheels with Toyo proxes 275 40 17s that have turned hard with age. I wanted to install Toyo proxes tq 315 35 17s for the looks and performance, but have been enlightened on this forum that this is a poor choose. So my question is if I buy replacement OE Z06 18X10.5 wheels with the Toyo proxes tq 315 35 18s is this the best combo for my money to get the results I want?

I should ask what is the widest tire (contact patch) I could run on my 17x9.5s.or will I have to go to 18s to get the results I want?

It really depends on the brand of the tire, as some are wifer than others in the same numbered size, but on a 17x9.5" wheel a 275 is your best overall bet. Also a 315/35/17 Nitto 555R drag radial runs very narrow for its size, and it will fit a 9.5" wheel. It will bow over a little but nothing like a 315 Toyo. Just a thought

Ok so I searched 555rs and they look good, write up sounds good and price is inline. Definitely less expensive than new rims and tires.
Thanks for the advice.

With the 315s did you have to do any cutting of the bump stops or roll the fender?

Same here, I would never hack up a nice low mile car like that. I am curious on the backspacing oh his wheels.

My car is stock ride height with stock springs and shocks. I am soooo happy with the look and performance of the Nittos and no issues. Although I do not drive around with passengers in the back seats and so dont know if that would cause rubbing. The performance compared to my eight year old Toyos is amazing.
