Are bias tires safe on the streets
having a hard time deciding on tires. I cant find alot of options for the rim sizes i have. Fronts 17"x4.5" rears 15"x10" theese tires will see street use so im looking for tires that are safe on the street and i cant find many radials in the size im looking for. So are bias tires safe on the streets and what brands

Yes bias plys are safe on the streets. I have put countless street miles on slicks. Obviously don't drive in the rain and be mindful of your driving habits. I feel like people that say bias ply tires aren't safe on the street haven't actually tried them...

There is nothing inherently unsafe about running a bias ply tire on the street. Bias ply tires have their own advantages and disadvantages when compared to radial. The biggest disadvantage is heat build up with the bias ply. This is mitigated with proper inflation for the application at hand. I would recommend a tread belted bias tire over non-belted as this keeps the tread foot print more square as opposed to round (think of bias trailer tires how the middle of the tread sits higher). Number one cause of tire failure though is under inflation, so keep them aired up properly and you will be fine.

There are numerous standard radial and drag radial tires made for a 15x10 rim out there. You shouldn't have a problem finding those. As for the 17's your options are narrow. I found a set of Hoosier pro street radials to be the best on the street so far for skinnies. I'm running the 26-7.5-17's and haven't had an issue thus far with them aired to 35 cold. I'm running them in conjunction with a 275-60-15 rear and the abs only trips after like 70 mph. Decent setup with about 8k street miles so far.
