I should probably know this answer.....

I have a new chrome set. Can I leave the car sitting on the ground and just remove one---replace one.......remove one----replace one. Until they're all replaced.

Does keeping the load on the tires/wheels cause any kind of issue doing it that way?

The hub bears the weight of the car. You could pull 4 off and it wouldn’t do anything. Assuming you have hub-centric wheels, of course. You could still remove 3 and be ok with non hub centric wheels.
