Default Tire question for 10.5 wheel...

Yes I know it’s annoying asking about fitment issues. I’ve spent the whole day reading every forum and I’m still not sure what to do.
I have a 94 trans am gt with stock suspension.
I want these wheels https://www.oewheelsllc.com/CV27A-18...Stingray-style
I want to run 295/35/18 which I know should be ok for the rears. But I’ve been reading a bunch of conflicting answers for the fronts.
I want to do 275/35/18 but the wheels I want are only available in a 18x10.5 or 18x8.5. They have a 17x9.5 inch wheel but I want all 18s. 18x8.5 is too small.
Would I be ok doing 275/35/18 on the 18x10.5 ?
Or would a 285/35/18 be better for the 18x10.5?
Without any modifications of course. If I need spacers so be it. The fronts are my issue at the moment.
it’s my weekend/summer car and I’m just a spirited driver that’s it. Thank you !

A 295 or even 305 will work well on a 10.5, but a 275 on an 8.5 doesn't work well or look good (imo). It would definitely be better to run a 245 or 255 on an 8.5 front wheel. What is your reason for wanting a 275 on a 8.5 wheel? Or do you just really wish there was a 9.5x18 in that wheel style to run with a 275?

I really wish there was a 18x9.5 wheel. The ones I see from oewheels that would fit I don’t like. I have read that a 18x9.5 would actually be better for a 275/35/18 front and 295/35/18 rear even. I’ve read many ppl have done that and it’s actually ok. Rather do that I guess. Since I have you here. I found these wheels I really like and according to carid they should fit. It’s the correct size 18x9.5 all around 5x120.65 with +38 offset. I think the setup I want should be ok with these wheels don’t you think ?

If anything I’ll prolly just go ahead with the c7 wheels and get a 265/35/18 on that 8.5 wheel. Hawksmotorsports told me they’ve ran a 275 (bulge was noticeable) so a 265 should be fine they said.

Those xxr's in black look nice. If you are leaning towards the c7's though, they're a good looking wheel as well. An acceptable amount of tire bulge is in the eye of the beholder, but the 8.5 with a 265/35 will buldge. I run a 265/35 on my 9.5 fronts and it's exactly the look I was going for.

@gallardo259 man that’s a nice look ! Thats the look I want ! Did you run any spacers ?
What are your opinions on these Aodhan wheels and Curva wheels ?
I think they would look nice on the bird. They have +35 offset tho but I would get all 4 corners 18x9.5 275/35 front and 295/35 rear and they come in a 5x120.6 bolt pattern so they should be ok according to carid.

For a Firebird I personally think the aodhan wheel would look great, similar style to a CCW classic. I don't use any spacers because CCW's are custom made per application. My fronts are a +40 offset to clear big brakes and are flush with the fender.

275 on a 8.5 rim is pretty much perfect....its a 1/2" less than factory. I haver 275's on 9.5" rims up front. They look perfect.

I have 315's on my 10.5" rims in back. Thats also perfect.

A 1/2"......what a meaningless difference. Also, some people say this and that looks bad....thats also meaningless. What you think is all that matters. And slightly bulging tires saves rims......

I had 315's on my factory 9.5" WS6 rims for 15 years. Wore perfectly, handled perfectly, did everything perfectly. They bulged slightly and saved my rims a few times.

@Cant_die_LOL That’s the best way to put it man.
Everyone has different tastes. The only issue I had was if they would fit on the car. Is it safe ? And would that setup not rub where I have to roll the fenders?

From what I’ve gathered, it seems I should be ok for the most part.

Unless you go 315 rear, you will not rub. My 315's on 18x10.5 rims barely rubbed in a hard turn. I smacked that rub spot which was only about a 2" diameter rub spot....a few times with a hammer and its fine, no rubbing after that.

Front....I have 18x9.5. 275 tires, they are a mile from rubbing and I'm lowered.

I think you're totally fine.

whats wrong with going 18x10.5 all around? that what i'd do in your situation and is the setup that i have on my car with a 295/35 nitto tire. gives you the ability to rotate tires which gives them longer life and a square setup gives you more grip in the twistys, win-win if you ask me

So a 275 tire is perfect on a 8.5 and 9.5" wheel and a 315 tire is perfect on a 9.5 and 10.5" wheel and maybe even more perfect on your factory 9.5 rim because it saved your rims a few times? Though I am confused by all of this perfection, I'll definitely agree with you that in terms of looks it comes down to personal preference.
To the OP, ls1tech normal suggestions would be a 275 on a 9.5" and 315 on an 11" wheel. (Moderators close down threads that discuss 315's on 9.5" rims, oh how fascist &#128580 Clearly I didn't follow this exactly since I have a 265 on my 9.5 and a 315 on my 11" wheels. If, as previously stated, you like the look I have, running a 275 on an 8.5" rim will not achieve this look nor will it perform as well as a properly fitted tire.

If GM puts a 275 tire on 9" factory rim that means its not at a dangerous limit either way....very very far from dangerous or improper. So yes, a 275 on an 8.5" or 9.5" is perfectly fine in every way. There's a lot of leeway both ways before anything negative will happen. Same with 315's. You do not need an 11" rim for them to operate perfectly in every way for a street car. 15+ years of doing it multiple brands proves that. However, I wouldn't go hard core on a road race track with R-Compound tires unless all 4 tires were on the EXACT size rim they are supposed to be on.

I now have a set 335's on 18 x 12.5's........can't wait to try to make them fit in the rear soon......
