Moderate winters: All season or Snow tires?

I've kept nitto DRs (& SZ50s up front) on my car for the last 2 winters.
Nitto DRs are horrible in the cold weather; like driving on rocks. Poor tread life and no traction on cold mornings. If there is a hint of snow, the car stayed parked. Even if I never saw snow, I'm taking them off this winter.
This winter I need to be able to get through an occasional snow if it doesn't exceed 2 - 3"s. We get salted / plowed pretty quickly so a lot of the time it will be a slush mix. We only get hit with snow a few times and the car doesn't need to make it but a couple miles.
I was thinking about getting a set of Pirrelli PZero Nero M&S. Everyone on Tire Rack raves about them. Sounds like they'll still have decent grip in dry weather and handle a light snow. Will they meet my needs? The alternative is Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3s.
