This is my experience also. I have to use a lot more
pedal to spin in 1st and no longer see wheelspin on
the 1-2, rarely chip, and I do have a higher-than-
stock stall speed / STR converter. They just go.
BFG KDWs would have been my other choice but I
liked the tread pattern on the GS-D3s and their wet
traction rating. Of course the tire store chumps for
some reason wanted to sell me the KDWS instead
(I need snow tires in Florida, yeah).
I would really like to see some "best 60-ft" numbers
from people who have hit the strip on these tire types
(with some notation as to weight, trap speed and
whether wheelspin factored in). KDWs vs GS-D3s
especially.

The 285s are not too big for the stock 17x9" rims. They do however due to their size bulge just a tad over the rim. Nothing major to the untrained eye but slightly. I have ran them pretty hard around corners with no indications that they might lose their bead on the wheel. They hook like mad for a street radial.

GSD3's suck period. Anyone who thinks these tires grip well has never run any real good tires because compared to the old F1's especially the run flats the GSD3 is great. I only bought these tires cause I read all those grand reviews on tirerack and all i can say is phooey what a bunch of BS. I ran the Yok A520 just prior to the GSD3 I have now and they were sooooo far better in every single catergory IMO. The only good things about the GSD3's are good looks, comfy, quiet, and good in the wet but thats it. For high performance they absolutely suck! For straight dry line traction I can roast 285/40's with 3.73's on a well set up 350 horse six gear car. In the exact same car with the exact same set up running an LT4 clutch the clutch would slip before the A520's would spin. They do have downsides such as fast wear and noisy for sure but for street high performance? No comparisson far better than the GSD3. The A520 was better in the rain too IMO. The GSD3 is also a very sloppy and wobbly tire that does not instill confidence at all. For cornering once they are loaded they do hold very well its just not fun to get them there. Its your money but I would buy the Michelins or the Yok's or even the Kumho's over the GSD3. Good luck.
BTW the AVS Sport is the A520 replacement.
