Is it safe to run 315's on 17x10?
I saw the sticky posted and the largest tire it had listed with a 17x10 wheel was a 285. I was wondering if anyone is running 17x10's with a tire larger than that and if there have been or could be problems with that. thanks

I just put a 315/35/17 on my ten spokes. Are they 9.5 or 10?
I don't see why it would be unsafe, it buldges out on the sides though, not sure I like the look on the side but it looks sick from the back.

stock SS and WS6 wheels are 9'' wide
i would say 10'' with NITTOS 315s would be just fine
once again, nittos are quite a bit skinnier than other brands of the same size

I believe that if you take turns too hard, the tire can come off the rim. I'm no expert on the subject, but be careful if you fit oversized tires on stick rims. I've got 315 F1s on 17x11 ZR1 replicas - IMO best appearance mod you can do for these cars ; )

but, like i said...the nittos are the only "315" i would run on anything less than 11'' wheel

Well.. I tested out the hard turn idea last night. I've got 500# coil overs and full suspension on my car.
I don't know how much I like the pooching out on the sides, I'm going to try and buy some new wheels pretty soon, 11's out back and 9.5 or 10 up front.

uh oh.. you are touching a very sensitive topic. The manufacture does say that you should not put 315's on anything less than 11. However, people (such as myself) have put the 315 Nitto's on 17X10's. Is this is a good idea? Well, probably not... Have I had any problems? No. Does that mean that I won't? No. There is always a possibility that something could go wrong with the tire. Many people on this site will tell you that they have done something that goes against manufacture instruction without any problems. That is your call to make because your car just might be that one that DOES run into problems. The notice is there for a reason. You are taking a chance regardless.

Thanks for all of the replies. I know that it's against the manufacturer's suggestions but I was looking for members here who have actually done it with no problems. The wheels I want to get only go to a 10" width. I really want a wider tire out back but maybe something else not quite as wide will satisfy my desires. Anyways, this won't be for a good while because the engine is getting forged and I'm putting a turbo on next summer.
btw: the wheels I'm looking at are the Intro Wheels GT Sport. Nine Ball has them on his 69'.

I've had no problems with the 315's on my 10 spokes. Ditto on all the other advice given. IMO you are better off going too wide than too narrow - it will look better, more contact patch(with the correct air pressure), etc.
