Default Whats the best street drag radial?

I am going to get some new tires in about a month, and was wondering which ones to get. i was going to go with the nitto 555 in the front and nitto drags in back, but my buddy that works at Discount said the BFG drags hook better and are cheaper. any thoughts? thanks

BFG Drags hook better, but wear out much faster than Nittos and are dangerous in the rain.

So if you're going to do basically track only with them, with very little street driving, go with BFGs. But if you're going to do a lot of driving, including in the rain, definitely get Nittos.

thanks Patman. is there any tire out there that is just about as good as a drag radial, but isnt one. i do a lot of highway driving everyday, so i would like something that doesnt wear out that quick, but still hooks. but i really want drag radials.

My brother has BFG KDs which are among the stickiest road race style street tire but they still give up so much in a straight line due to the stiff sidewall. There are others as well but they'll have the same problem and a lot of them still wear only marginally better than Nitto DRs.

I do know that the "strongest" street radial would be made from "ZYLON"

I ran a pair of these last year and got 11k out of them, and they are super soft when heated up. They are road race tires, but work very well on the street and are Z rated. Since Nitto and Toyo are the same company, you can compare their treadwear ratings, the Nitto is at 100, while the RA-1s are at 40, so you can see they are softer. And they aren't too expensive either, and are AWESOME in the rain! I even got caught in some light snow when they were almost bald and they got me home safely!

You may not be as impressed with the BFGs when you wear out a set in just 5k, like I did with mine on my 98 Formula. They hooked awesome though (best 60ft of 1.81) but were very scary in the rain, even when new.

I'd go Nittos for a street car, BFG's are just too scary in the rain even when new.

Nittos can go like 8-15K miles.

It's hard to find a traction compromise when you rack up a lot of road miles. I'll tell you this, Kuhmos, FOR THE PRICE, are excellent traction wise in dry and/or wet weather, BUT suck for noise and being able to balance out. Super stiff sidewalls, "groove" tracking characteristics.
If there were two things I really dislike about my car as bought, it's the 8" x 16" rims (too small), and the 10 bolt.
As far as tires go, there seems to be little quality control anymore. I got so fed up with tire vibes on my last Camaro (Goodyear,Cooper, Sears, and yes,Mich)I scrapped the factory wheels and bought Bridgestone tires. Rode better than new.

What I'm finding is that while some tires do ok with only balancing weights on the inside of the wheel (as so many people choose for COSMETIC reasons only) and others might not do as well.
Before I would scrap an otherwise good tire I would try a full, real high speed balance first.

Had weight on the rim edge on the inside, stick ons at the closest point to outside edge.Tires balanced on Hunter 9700 best balancer on earth. All 4 tires at least 45LBS out.Discount tire taped printout to tires and shipped them back to nitto. They said manufacturers hate that machine but when presented with proof will issue credit for defective tire.I have all tires balanced on that machine, you would be shocked at number of new tires that are junk, manager told me 20% wont road force balance, most people dont pay attention to this.If your driving a cavalier and never go faster than 70mph it doesnt matter but a car that can run 160mph+ $200.00 tire I want a properly balanced setup.
