Is the motorcycle tires for the 16" skinny's safe for our cars on the street and what about the load rate?

Isn't the CCW wheels that all the Corvette, Viper, and Supra guys use a 17" wheel? I wonder what size tire they use? If Brian narrowed your 16" wheel, he should be able to narrow a 17" wheel also.

How much does your 16" chrome wheel weigh compared to like a 15" Weld?

The guy who emailed me from Wheels America in Dallas was a dick. Said they didn't widen wheels a few months back. I'd like to have my G2 wheels widened to 11". Did they have to use two more factory WS6 wheels to widen them, or do they use some of their own stock to fill in the space?

They said if I shipped them two 17" rims for the widening process it would save me around $100.00 but for the cost findding two rims and shipping I just let him do it. He wound supply the rims to do it with a total of $400.00 .I checked Texas and Calf. and both told me that they did not do it only in Florida does it.

What's the verdict on running the motorcycle tires on an F-body? Any pics? Issues? Any news on when the 17" front runner will be released? What do Vettes use for 16" skinny tires? I know I have seen some on CCWs, just never payed attention to what size.

I got a set of 16" rim narrowed to 3.5",and I need the (brand) of motorcycle tire not the size, I found it 150/80/16 ,or does the brand matter, Just thinking of the load of the tire, differant brands has differant load rates,Just want the strongest tire so i dont blow out the side walls

Well ,I did it my self.I am the shop foreman in a big fab shop. All i did was did some mesuring and put them in a lay and cut off what was needed and made a jig to line them up and then rolled a aluminum 3/8"-3/4" flat bar to fill in the off set then welded them with a Miller aluminum mig welder and then took the to a tire shop to check the balance. and with the parts lift over i made a set of 16"-10.5, I been a fabercater & welder for over 20 years now. I can make a lot of thing like valve sping tools, egr block off plates i dont say any thing on here because other peaple already saleing them on here.

Hi Scott,

It is true that we are developing a 17x4.5 wheel. It will be a 17” version of the Aluma Star 1-pc forged 15x3.5. The primary application will be for the Ford Cobra. If the wheel shows a strong demand, an application for the F-body will follow quickly. We are currently in the tire/wheel testing stage and expect this wheel to be available to the public in July.

Best regards,

Can anybody attest to the feasability of using motorcycle wheels on the front of an f-body?

I made a thread probably 2 years ago about narrowing stock rims and running bike tires and everyone called me stupid.

Anyways, the more I looked into it the more worthless it sounded. It'd cost atleast $100 a rim if not more, and you'd only be taking out the outter portion of the wheel, which is light compared to the "spokes". You might save 5lbs taking out 5" of outer diameter then maybe 5lbs going with a bike tire. If you're rich and you don't like skinnies, then it might be feasable, but other than that it's not a good cost effective mod.
