Default Damn 58MM Offset Z06's

Ok this might be a redundant post BUT I'm still kind of unclear on this due to about 500 Billion opinions. I am getting 18x10.5 z06 motorsport rims for my car in the back. Its a 98 Z28. The car is not lowered now, but will soon have an Eibach pro kit. SO....with a 295-35-18 tire, will the tires rub in back? IF they do, will a spacer fix the problem AND what size spacer due I need (If I do I know that I need studs)? And lastly, with a 1/2 spacer would the tires stick out like a South of the Border lowrider, or would it still look pretty sweet? Last Q, shout I use chrome lugs or black powder coated lugs for these rims?

You can run anywhere between a 1/2" to 1/4" spacer. Once past a 1/4" spacer you MUST run new studs, although I recommend running new studs for any spacer.

You do not have to run a spacer to make it fit. Some slight inner wheel well massaging will be needed.

The larger the spacer the greater the possibility of the rear tire contacting the hweel well lip. I ran a 5/16" with mine and never had any wheel lip issues.

The main thing to keep in mind with regard to ZO6 replica wheels is that with the 18x10.5's, you'll find offsets ranging from 53mm - 58mm (there may even be some greater than 58mm, can't remember for sure). IMO, the 53mm wheels will look the best because they will not be tucked in as far (ideally something around 45mm offset would be great, but nobody makes them). The drawback is that on a lowered car you MAY need to roll the fenders. The cars seem to vary a bit so this is not always the case and with an adjustable PHR you may be able to get away without rolling. Now, with the 58mm offset you won't have to worry about rolling the fenders (since the wheel will be tucked in more), but you'll likely require the BFH mod on the inside of the fenderwells. The 56mm offset is probably the best compromise for those not interested in dealing with fender rolling or BFH's.

Okay, with that said, if you end up with prokits, 18x10.5's on 58mm, and 295/35/18's in the back you will likely have to hammer on the inside of the fenderwells a little. An adjustable PHR may help, but if you go into it expecting to hammer a little you won't be caught off guard. Using a 5mm or 1/4" spacer should be fine - just make sure you still get at least 6 full turns on the lugs and pick up high quality hubcentric spacers not the $9 cast crap from Jeg's. Last I saw Doug Rippie was the only place you could get nice hubcentric spacers that small. H&R used to make very nice 5mm and 10mm spacers, but they've since been discontinued for our bolt pattern. There may also be some custom spacer builders out there. I wouldn't go with a spacer larger than 1/4" on the stock wheel studs. Just remember that a 58mm wheel with a 5mm spacer equates to a 53mm offset, so you're probably better off just getting the 53mm offset wheel to begin with - unless, of course, there's something about the 58mm wheel that you just can't do without...

First off relax, youre going to be okay.

When I had the 58mm offset 18x10.5 Z06 wheels with 295/35/18 tires I used an 1/8" spacer, kept the stock studs and barely had to hammer in the inner fender. The 'stance' looked just right and I went with chrome lugnuts which looked great.

Heres a walkthrough if you DONT want to use spacers: http://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread...hreadid=223590

You can thank me later.

Dante Designs makes a 53mm offset in both the 18x10.5 and the 18x9.5. I know they're available in chrome, but not sure of other finishes. I'd contact your local Discount Tire and see what they can get you (assuming you haven't tried that already).

BTW, here's a fairly poor pic of the fender-to-tire relationship of the 18x10.5's with 295/35/18's. These are 53mm offset with a 5mm spacer (effectively 48mm offset). Car is lowered almost same amount as prokit.

get some longer stud bolts (2.5 inch) and a 5/8 inch spacer.

I JUST got my 295/38/18 bfg kdw2's and 18x10.5 inch z06 rims.. Thats what I am planning on.

getting tires mounted and balanced as we speak.

Hopefully no hammer mod but if I do, how much could I have to do? I knocked the 58mm by using the 5/8 spacer

I had to do some "work" in order to make my +58mm 18x10.5 Z06's work in my rear fenderwells. I have been enlightened that the the rear inner fenderwells can be different for each car.

That said...

I went thru a bit to get them in, but they're in nonetheless. Here's the link:

http://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread...hreadid=225761

The 1/4" spacer was not wide enough to allow the bumpstops enough space to not scrape the tires & new wheels, and on top of that using the 1/4" spacers also caused the fender lip to hit the tires, so that was out of the question. The amount of turns on the lugnuts with the spacers was only 4 full turns, I was not happy about that. We had to do the BFH mod & dremel stuff out of the way.

I'm VERY happy with the results though, my car sits low & mean, just some very slight rubbing which requires more of the BFH, but not a biggie. I am going back to my friend's place on 5/21 & we're going to come up with some way to fabricate a bumpstop setup.
