Default Big Vs. Wide

It seems to me when you're plunking down a good bit of cash you have two choices. Big, or wide. Granted you can go big and wide, but now you're talking about spending BIG bucks.

I've been shopping around for a nice set of wide wheels 10"+. And it seems to me barring the ZR1's, and TT2's. You're going to spend around $2k just for metal. (no tires). Then I started to think to myself, "is 11" wide really going to hook that much better than 9.5" wide?"

So with the 9.5" wide being ok I started looking into some of the larger diameter wheels. 19". IMHO 19's look killer on F-Bodies. Unfortunately it seems that the large diameter is a trade-off for traction. When I had my 19's on my old WS.6. I could break the tires loose easier than the stock 17's.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, what do you guys prefer? I LOVE the look of a steamroller in the rear. But then again I LOVE the look of a 19" tall wheel. I have a $2k budget as far as wheels go, so it's one or the other. Not both

go with the wide tires, the big ones look like the car is a truck goin 4x4, just my opinion, FBods are ment to be with wide tires, not tall tall. 16's or 17's are just fine, as long as they are about 10" or plus wide

Got any wide ones in mind? ZR1's, and TT2's don't count.

theres a guy that sells/makes a 18x12 chrome z06 wheel if you wanted z06's..... just get an 18x9.5 for front and 18x12 for rear.....

btw, 450 for the rears so probably less for the fronts and still have $$ for tires....

Anything wide looks good on FBods, its up to you on what you want for the price. Just remember you cant really go wrong with wide tires!! Thats why I love 'em. Big rims and you get to many critics liking it, not liking it, or "heres how i'd have done it" But fat tires in the back and...MMMMM Big fat booty in the back!!! Thats all the Honda's/Mustangs will see, might as well give them sumthing nice to look at!!

Yeah CCW classics are at the top of my list. I just don't know if I should do the 17x11 rears, or 18x11's. The biggest tire I could find in my price range is a 295/35/18

I've run 19x9.5's out back... My advise to you. Spend the money on good rubber. Mine didn't hook for ****.

And not to knock the 9.5's but my car has that width stock. I want to go wider than that.

well look at it this way....9.5" rim will fit 285's maybe 295's. you said your price range was 295/35's. reguardless if you have 275's or 295's, if your pushing a decent amount of power on the street w/ low profile tires, youre gonna have traction issues. i thought the ws6's came w/ 17x9"s?

I don't have the WS.6 anymore. I now have a 02 SS. As for the low pro comment. My car hooks pretty good with the stock tires as is. I figure going an extra 1.5" wide will allow me to hook that much better. Plus I like the look of staggered wheels.

So I'm getting the feeling that a 17x9.5" is going to hook better than a 19x9.5" assuming it's running the same model tire? And that the 9.5" don't hook well compared to the 11"? Damn is that right? I'm limited to a 9.5" wheel width on the back of my car...

Who makes 12" wide z06's?

If you want to hook, get some 16x12 Real wheels and put 26x12x16 slicks on them. You need some sidewall to get traction. 18" and bigger wheels are for show, not go.

basically, CAl pretty much said it...

It all depends ultimately on wat your goals are. IF you want to be a seen and dont mind a harsh ride, not to mention possible traction issues due to less tractable material e.i sidewall size, than get a set of 19'z all around, maybe 20'z out back (a few companies but my favorite wheels are teh CCW 500sp or SP500...does are DA wheels!!!!)

Anyways, if you like to race and have fun, but sacrifice the looks for a litle go, than a set of 17x11'z out back would be wat your looking for.

This topic hs been haunting because im still unsure which way i would like to go. But i feel that maybe a set of 18'z, 9.5 or 10'z (maybe, if they fit and wont throw your ABS calculatons off) in front, 10.5'z out back or again another maybe 11'z, with a 35mm sidewall..... 275-285 front, 295-305 rears, again the overall diameter is important but im unsure right now if a 305 on 18'z might be to much....

ANYWAYS, its late!!! a set of 18'z with a 35mm sidewall, on 275f 295r might be a good in between setup.....

good luck, i know im still un decided...

I've never seen a 9.5" wide rim that fits 285's, let alone 295's. You need at least a 10" rim to fit the 285-295 widths.
