Default 17' Rim HOw big of a tire can i get?

I Have 17' firehawk rims on my 01 ss n i want a wide tire in the back i was wonderin what the widest i could go was.

If there the 17x9s like I have on my car 275 is the widest recommended tire.
I'm running 275/40 17s on mine.

performance wise thats the widest....bigger can be fit, but is not recommended. and if something happens like the tire just beads of the rim for some odd reason, the companny wont do **** for you cus it was too big. i have the stock 17x9.5s and i'm moving to a 295 out back pretty soon i think. people have done 315s on a 9.5, but most hated it. use the search button up top, it'll help a lot

275/40ZR17 is the perfect fit for a 9" wide wheel.

Goodyear GS-D3 285/40R17 works out OK even with
a 1" drop and is not ridiculous-looking on SS rims:

I like the look of those 285's on a 9.5 rim. Look pretty fat (no, not with a 'ph').

Well im pretty sure i have a 1' drop on my car sooo i think ill go with the 285s
