A wider tire won't necessarily mean more traction.
A skinnier tire with a better compound will get more traction than a 335 made out of shitty material. It's hard to say what a 275 will hold.

Also depends on how violent your power hits the tires. If you run nitrous, blower, or turbo.
On my turbo car, I can stick a lot better than other cars with other setups running a lot less power than me. The power comes on pretty smooth and doesn't jolt the tires. 275/40/17 BFG DR's have worked great for me at 10 lbs of boost. They will spin a little if I roll into second really hard, but for the most part they stick great. I'm sure if I was running the same power with nitrous, I'd probably be having traction issues in 3rd and 4th.

See sig, I'm ok on the street, lots of 2nd gear wheelspin. If track not prepped right, I have close calls with the guard rail. All this with Nittos

Some guy running all BMR Extreme duty suspension mods is running 7.66 on 275 m/t DR's. I have the m/t et street radials and they hook really well. Supposedly they hook better than nitto/bfg 315's.
