Default Chrome wheels - cleaning?

I have the stock 16" chromed alloys on my Z28.

Personally I love them and will not be changing them. But after washing they tend to have a water stained/tarnished look about them.

Any tips for cleaning them? Or products?

I've tried a couple of different ideas, but don't want to use anything that might damage the chrome.

Cheers for your help.

PS I did search, and didn't get the answer I'm after.

I clean my stock 16s with RAM industrial cleaner. It eats away the brake dust almost instantly and then I scrub it in with a toothbrush and spray again and wipe with a chloth.

I haven't had any luck except for old fashioned chrome
cleaner (Turtle Wax, but whatever will do) and a whole
lot of rubbing. Seems like wheel cleaners get the grime
but the final shine isn't there until I use the polish. Of
course I get right on this, every year or so.

Chrome 10-spokes have a lot of corners, pain in the ***,
and the SLP chrome job was not exactly the best; seems
like the spoke faces that hit the road spray, when on top
(moving double-speed into the salty gritty wind), are getting
pretty micro-pitted.

Been thinking an electric toothbrush might be the way to
go for those crusty corners (all 80 of 'em).

I've just got the regular 5 spoke Z28 Chrome wheels.

Really like the look of them, it's just they have a slight tarnished look when up close. Kinda like solid silver goes.

I was a bit worried about using any chemicals incase it reacted bad with the chrome.

it was from a rather long discussion in the street kill forum. It's an amalgamation of quotes but they are all from xphantomws6x, all I did was cut & paste.

I've found that Mother's Chrome Polish give a little better "mirror" finish than Turtle Wax.

I had some clear overspray hit my Z06 rims and was pretty worried that it wouldnt come off but I called a local place called "The Rim Doctor" and he said just use some paint thinner. It worked awesome and he said go ahead clean all the other rims with it while your at it. Paint thinner is an AWESOME rim cleaner. It took off everything with minimal effort, I just followed the clean up with a rinse off and them some mothers chrome polish and the rims came out looking better then new IMO. Give the thinner a try it wont hurt the rims at all. Chrome can stand up to almost anything, even coke works

I have always used just regular glass cleaner and some paper towels. Gives the rims a great mirror finish look.

since they are 16 chrome they have no clear coat. Use xxx fine steel wool and rub them down shines like a mirror and ZERO scartshes. Make sure it is XXX FINE sells at wal-Mart in hardware used for polishing. thats what I used on my last bird.

If the are super dirty/stained, try some metal polish and a strong glass cleaner, followed by some chrome polish and wax.

Chrome is pretty tough, most solvents won't harm it like they would painted wheels.
