Default Are my tires worn out??

The tread life on my tires was recently measured at 5/32. Can anyone tell me how bad or good this is. Tires are 275/40/17 Falkens. Any % of tread life left predictions welcome.

Once you get down to about 2/32nds is when you should replace them.

Well as an tech at a dealership, our state inspection requirements state that a tire fail inspection if 2 adjacent treads are at or below 2/32. Personally I like to recommend tires to a customer if they get to 4/32, especially now since winter is just around the corner.

One thing I never understood is that in our state brake pads and tires fail our annual inspection at 2/32. Do they really expect 2/32 of material to last a full year of driving? Because we all know that the average joe only wants to bring his car in for service if its broken or, just to put stickers on their car.

Do you slide around curves on dry pavement without trying yet? If not, then you have some tread. I don' t think the F1' s on the back of my car, would even read on a tread guage at this point. Hell, you can barely even feel the grooves anymore!

put a penny in the tread (with lincoln's head upside down), if you can see lincoln's whole head => time for new tires
