Default Anyone with 255/50 16" Tires?

Anyone out their with 255/50 16" tires. I know that it'll throw off my speedometer by 1.50%: but cannot afford 275/14 17" tires and wheels.
Besides I'd rather have a tire that's beefier on both the heght and widwith.

I was going to get 255/50/16 on my TransAm but the biggest Nitto made was 245/50/16.

Just get a 245/50. That taller sidewall isn't gonna do you any good with 2.73 gears.

those 255/50/16s are only roughly a half inch more in diameter, and your low traction light was comming on, so am I going to have problems with my 225/60/16 winter tires which are an inch taller than the stock tires then?

well I will have the same size tire on the front as the back so then that should keep the problem from happening wont it? being the tire speed will be identical? or does this have nothing to do with it. Thanks.

P.S. Sorry for hijacking this thread, just figured I would ask being I was thinkin about this and I didnt want to have to start another thread.

Do a search on tirerack.com for 255/50/16.If you have the stock 16 rim with the GSC tires the width is 10 inches with a height of 25.7.Go with a 255 and the most you will get is 10.3 on width and 26 on height.A little more beef to the ground. The MT radial has 10.5 inches width and 26.1 height,NOW THATS THE ****!

True, but the GSCs were one of the widest tread width 245/50 16s in existence, even wider than most 255/50 16s (street tires). I have the Falken Ziex 512s in 255/50 16 on 16x8 ZR1s and they are OK. When they are gone I will go to a good, sticky in the cold, 245/50 16 all season. The P Zero Nero M&S would have been a great tire for this, but they will never make it in this size, even though it was originally scheduled to be produced (I'm guessing because the F bodies are dead).

I ran 255 50 R16's on my stock 94 wheels, they fit fine, in my opinion they looked a hell of a lot better because they were slightly wider than the wheel, so you couldnt see the wheel poking out inside the tread from behind.

Thumbs up

Yea the 255/50/16 also fills up the rear well better too, with average height of 26.1 compared to 25.7 on the 245.Overall its a beefy tire for a 16 rim
