Default ? about AFS ZR1 Wheels

I tried searching, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I've heard talk of "old" and "new" versions of the ZR1 wheels made by AFS. What are the differences between the two, was it just appearance, or were the older ones heavier or more prone to cracks? I can't seem to find any solid info on this.

I Bought A Used Set (afs) And Look Just The Like The Fronts Except For The Deeper Part In The Middle That Makes Them Look Sick. :d They Seem Kinda Heavy Though And Look The Same As The Gs Vettes, The Same As All The Zr1's I Have Seen

Damn, 28 lbs seems pretty bad; supposedly the "new" AFS wheels are 25 lbs. or less.

Were any AFS wheels made in Korea? Are those the old or new ones?

When I got my AFS wheels I still got the old design that was made in the USA. On one of them, the clear coat (I have polished and clear coated wheels) around the valve stem cracked, so they send me a new wheel. They actually had to make a special wheel for me since the casting changed and they had to make a new one to replace mine with the old casting. That latest wheel was made in Korea. So I got 3 American and one Korean on my car....kinda weird, but I don't care, the new front wheel looked just fine.

these were the new design, just sent them back 2 weeks ago as a matter of fact. if i had their fronts i prob would have kept them even though they are heavy, dont have the deep centers anymore (its barely inset like the fronts), and the front lip which the wheel weights would sit if u so choose are larger. but i have gm wheels in the front and they dont come close to matching.

Here's some more interesting details... I just got 4 AFS ZR1s... They all look the same on the outside face to me, but two are made in korea, and two are made in the US. I don't have access to a scale, so I haven't weighed them. All are 17" by 11", and all have the deep center.

Old style (polished), notice the dish around the rear lugnuts.

i bought several sets of chrome AFS ZR1's from an online ebay vendor... i too noticed that one set was the old style with the deep center, but i also noticed another difference. some of the sets had sharper edges along the spokes, and i believe it was the older style that had more rounded edges on the spokes. i didn't even notice this when i put them on my wife's WS6 (i had taken 2 9.5"s from 2 sets of wheels and my buddy took 4 11"s to use for auto-x)... but one day i was taking some pics of them and noticed the spokes didn't match! anyway i ended up getting another set and now my wife has the newer, sharper spoked ones.

I'll post pics, but not right now. I'm going crazy with work, and Thanksgiving won't buy me any time either. In fact, I'm posting this from work right now (check timestamp to see how stupid I am). Expect them after Thanksgiving, at best.

First three pics are USA, second three pics are Korea. They look pretty much the same to me on the face. Do you guys notice any differences? Curious thing to me is the difference in the mounting surfaces on the two sets.

Also, the USA wheels were 23 lbs +/- 0.5 lbs (cheap POS bathroom scale), and the Korea wheels were 24 lbs +/- 0.5 lbs.

USA, Korea or whereever they are made, I haven't seen a difference in quality.

Both sets posted by me above were bought straight from AFS.

ls2 bait, these were bought on ebay used. When I received them, the boxes were labeled as "Old" AFS ZR1 wheels. I wasn't too sure at first, though, because they were made in different countries, but it seems they're pretty much the same, +/- maybe half a pound.

Yup, some of the edges of the spokes where they curve back towards the lip are sharper on different versions.
