Default Im so Confused & Pissed bout ZR1s and my WS6

Hey Guys I thought I had this all figured out. I searched and read till the cows came home. I read the Does it fit thread, and now I am more confused than ever. I am wanting to get ZR1s for my WS6 TA. I was all set on the 17x9.5 17x11 with the 56mm 50mm offsets. I want the tires to be flush with the front fender and not to stick out or be countersunk into the wheel well. I really thought this was the hook up. Then I found this EBay auction for AFS ZR1s and this is what they say about the 36mm offsets.

WHAT THEY WILL FIT: THESE WHEELS ARE CUSTOM MADE FOR THE 1984-1987 CORVETTE! These wheels are a direct bolt on. No spacers or adapters are needed! They also fit on the 1993-2003 TransAm or Firebird! They will not fit the 93-97 TransAm or Firebird "convertible". Please note that this is NOT the correct offset for the Camaro.
SIZE AND SPECIFICATIONS: There are two 17" x 9.5" wheels for the front and two 17" x 11" for the rear. They are 5-lug (5x120.65mm). The 17" x 9.5" are a +38mm offset (6.7 inch backspacing) and the 17" x 11" are a +36.5 mm offset (7.397 inch backspacing).

Why would they say that these are them. I have the SLP Bilsteins and SLP Eibach package. My car is lowered 1". WTF RIMS DO I NEED?? The 50mm or the 38;s. God Damm this hard.

It gets worse. I found a sight with good prices and look at the drag down menu of car options. They offer more sizes than ANYONE could possibly figure out. I thought the rear 17x11's were in 50mm or 36,, only and the fronts were 56mm or 36mm. I thought I knew that the WS6 TA got the 56mm up front and the 50mm in the rear. I am gonna run 275 up front and 315's on the rear. MAYBE Nitto maybe not. These guys list the rears with 3 options 36, 50, & 56, Y the 56 for the rear?? This is y I am going crazy. I have found them nowhwere else in 3 different 17x11's. WTF?

All you want is 50mm in the back and 56mm in the front forget everything else. The 36mm were made for the 84-87 Corvette. Order them and you'll be set.

Well to confuse you more . . . .

56 mm offset on the front is the OEM offset fro the F-Car, and will fit just fine.

38 mm offset on a 9.5" wide whell up front or even out back fit great on both Camaros and Firebirds. All my Fikses are 38 mm offset . . . .

Now in back . . . the "safeset" offset is 50 mm and will fit both the Bird and the Camaro. . . .

Not the 36.5 mm offset 11" wheel "can fit on the bird since the wheel wells are larger than a Camaro . . .

Make sence?

Oh and on a F-Car the smaller the numerical offset is the more the hweel moves OUTWARDS.

Nicely put, thanks for that write up! I was wondering the same about the fronts.

Here's the "Firebird only" set up on my Formula. Chrome AFS ZR1's 17x9.5 and 17x11's (+38 front/36.5mm rear)

The edge of the rims are exact even with the side of the car. Not sucked in.

IMO they are the best choice because you don't have to worry about the BFH mod to your wheelwells.

Y wouldnt you do the 56mm on front and the 36.5mm on back? Y do u have to have the same or similiar offsets. The front tires are smaller in diameter and wouldnt match anyway. If you did all 4 17x9.5 then all four should match offsets. Anyone run 56 up front and 36.5 mm in back. Then the fronts would be flush and the rears would protrude a little but that also the 315s having their say. Make any sense??

Here's the details on my Chrome ZR1 rims :

Fronts: 17 x 9.5" with 56mm Offset
Rears: 17 x 11" with 50mm Offset

I bought these off of Ebay.. Can't recall the seller, but alot of LS1Tech members have bought from him....

Hope that helped !

Yes you could . . .

The front tires are smaller in diameter and wouldnt match anyway.
The diameter neve cahnges a 274/40ZR17 and a 315/35ZR17 have the identical OD. . . .

If you did all 4 17x9.5 then all four should match offsets.
Yes you can doo that too . . .

A 56 mm 9.5" wheel does NOT is flush with the front fender, FYI . .

I didnt mean diameter, just chose the wrong words, I meant width. Also the last statement I was referring to 11" wide rim w/ the 36mm offset to avoid the BFH mod.

17x9 front 56mm
17x11 rear 36.5mm in rear This should look fine and have no issues with the fenders or bump stops. Am I on the right track????

Sure. But just FYI if you plan to lower, the offset you chose for the rear increases the risk of the tire contacting the wheel well. . . .

50mm in back, 56mm in front. I'm lowered 1.5" Eiback Prokit and these offsets worked well for me! Not alot of hammering, banging etc to make them work...

With that wheel combo, I have the following suspension:

Fronts - Koni SA shocks with DMS Springs
Rears - Stock shocks [Koni SAs coming soon ] with DMS Springs

I did need to do the BFH and some massaging to prevent the rears from rubbing!
