Which new tires: BFG KD or F1 GS-D3's
Hey everyone. I haven't yet ordered my new tires because I'm trying to decide which ones will work best for me. I have a '99 Z, G5X4-ish cam, LS6 heads, full bolt-ons, full suspension, 4K stall, and 3.73's. My car is a 95% street-driven car. I had slicks and skinnies but didn't want to drive those all the time, and since I'm moving soon, don't have the room for two sets of wheels/tires right now. I want an everyday tire....was kind of considering Nitto's but I find myself drawn more to the BFG KD's and Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. Which would you do?
I like the KD's because they grip REALLY well, and look badass. Wet traction isn't fanstastic, but this isn't a wet weather car. Probably my favorite for dry traction and a really well handling tire. I'm leaning towards these.
I like the D3's as well because they too look badass and grip well, with good wet traction. It seems that the KD's have slightly better dry grip and handling though, and, honestly, I prefer the looks of the KD's.
If you had my car, with my mods, which would you choose? I'm not expecting 1.6 60' times, just hookable street tires. Opinions? Thanks.
Adam

No street tire is going to hook a heads/cam LS1, period. If you're looking for decent dry traction, go with a drag radial. If you want a street tire, enjoy tirespin. /thread.
I run GSD3s up front, MT ET Street radials out back on my 17s.

if your suspension is set up for handling i would go with GS D3 all around with no questions ask(awesome tire for handling). if you do alot of red light racing go with GS D3 for the front and some drag nittos for the back

as far as dry handling performance, the KD is a superior tire. I actually prefer the KD over my current PS2's in the handling department. The KD's are a killer dry performance tire. The D3's have -way- too soft of a sidewall for me.

have you ever had a set of KD's and drove them hard in the corners?? They are the best dry weather tire I have had to date. They do have some pretty stiff sidewalls, but that's why I like them

The KD's track better, have a bit less sidewall flex, and are more forgiving in the corners. The D3 seemed to have a bit better traction in a straight line and was 100 times better in the rain. Both are great tires.

Haha...now the decision is more complicated. I'm not looking for a tire that will take a 3K launch on the street right now...that's unreasonable with my setup. I need a driving tire...something to get me around day to day. Once I move, I might pick up some stock 5-spokes and some ET Streets.

i think it might have to do with your setup( shocks your using, sway bars, your wheel alignment settings) and tire sizes that you r using.

Haha...I have a 4K stall, no weight in the car, so I don't think it's a particularly great wet weather ride, so I think I'll keep it in the dry. I'm tempted to go GS-D3 thought, because they are cheaper, and the softer sidewall might be better.

I have been running GSD-3's on my trans am mostly stock and my bro with 420rwhp SS has the KD's for several years now. In an above post I believe you said your not gona drive the car in the rain, if thats the case you should hands down go with the KD's. Although more expensive, you will absolutely see where the money went with the excellent traction. Its easier to break loose my Trans am with the D3's than the SS on KD's.
