What tires for my beater?

What tires for my beater? I've got a '97 Cavalier (195/65R15)that's gonna be needing tires soon but I'm not sure which ones I wanna go with. This thing is certainly no show or performance car so I'm looking for something cheaper, but not cheap to the point of excessive tire noise and very poor handling. Any recommendations? What have you owned and liked/hated?
