Default Is there anything you can do to get 555R's to wear evenly?

I have 275/40/17 555r's on my 9.5" wheels and I daily drive them at 17psi and the centers are practically bald, while the outside of the tread looks untouched. Is there anything you can do to stop this? I have some 17x11 ZR1's sitting in my room and the only thing stopping me from putting 555R's on them is the uneven wear. Would running them at 30psi help our would that just make it 2x worse? If there's nothing you can do I'm just going to get some 315 KD's...

I run mine at 30 on the street and the centers are wearing out faster in the center too.

17psi is WAY too low. Run them at 35 or so.

35 psi is usually what is recommended for a street tire. It seems that a lot of people have this problem with nitto tires. Under-inflation usually causes the shoulders to wear faster and over-inflation causes the middle to wear faster. Have your alignment checked out and you might also have to replaced your shocks. People don't realize that bad shocks can cause uneven tire wear.

Alighment wont cause the centers of the tires to wear faster than the outside on the back tires. And the shocks have 10-20k on them tops and in south florida the roads are pretty smooth so thats not it.

Here's a pic of my 315s that I had on the car for a LONG time, and the new ones that replaced them. I usually run them at 26-28 cold on the street and drop them to 18 at the track. On a longer drive I might put 30 in them, but that's as high as I'll ever go.

So higher pressure in them makes them wear more evenly?

26-27 cold pressure makes for even wear on mine.

I haven't had any wear issues with mine and I honestly haven't checked my air pressure in a while.

I put about 25psi cold in mine. Wear is just fine. Anything over that my contact patch becomes narrow and the sides of the tire don't even touch the ground.

Nah 275/40/17 is the correct size for him.

17psi is way to low for the street. You can get away with it at the track, but stop at a gas station and fill them back up to 32psi on your way home.

And YES, tire PSI affects wear. Normally low air pressure will wear out the sides. High PSI wears the centers.

But with soft compound tires thats not the case.

So you recomend 32psi on a 315 on a 17x11" wheel?

Well nitto emailed me back, they reccomend 26psi cold on the street and 20psi at the drag strip or down to 15psi min if you cant hook. for these tires. Just though I would pass this on.
