spacers?

just wondering what the deal with spacers are...i'd like for my wheels to line up with the fender well and just was wondering how much, where to get them, if they're worth it, what size lol...basically information.
i have 17x9 Firehawks now...and was thinking about getting some...

You can do a search with alot of info on this subject. I personally use 1" billet adapter spacers for the front wheels. I'm running 255's in front and it moves the wheels out even with the edge of the fender. I got them on ebay for about $65/pair. Generally, people here recommend against spacers altogether. But, most agree that as long as it's a 5/16" or smaller plate-style spacer, you can use stock wheel studs. I tried that and I just didn't have enough threads. Instead, I got Baer 1/2" billet spacers with longer ARP studs from Summit for the rear wheels. Still haven't installed them yet. Good luck.

I have 1/8th spacers on the rear with 315's. The spacers for me produce a vibration of an unbalanced tire between 60-80mph. Why not just put a couple of washers on each lug. It would be the same thing for about $1 a wheel. The rears are flush with the inner fender and at stock height won't rub. Pics aren't so good. If you want more for educational use let me know.

The only thing I have to add to this thread is that i would use longer wheel studs, and to make certain that the mating surfaces of the hub, wheel, and spacer are all very clean. Get out the wirebrush if they arent.

There is no difference. I used washers on a car for over 3 years and had no problems. My wheel didn't come off, my lug didn't break. It's your advice over mine.

You should not go larger than 5/16 with the stock studs. I have the stock trans am wheels right now (16x8s) and I bought 5/16 spacers to help fit my new wheels that I just bought. I put the spacers on the stock wheels in the mean time (while im waiting for tires). The 5/16 spacers actually brought my wheels out a good amount. More than i thought they would. I think If you did that with your 17x9s it would look perfect.
