I used to use them on our racecar. The good ones ($150+) work great and have pretty decent torque. We only torque the wheels to 80 ft/lbs and It will get the lugs off no problem. I did try a cheap $50 one and it sucked. In my local Pep boys ad they have been advertising a Goodyear 1/2 drive, 18v elec. impact for around $100.

I have a Dewalt 18V 1/2" drive and it works great. I can easily change from my 4 street tires to my 4 drag tires and back again on a single charge. I usually charge it after each trip to the racetrack and it's fine. My wife thinks it's very loud. I bought it used/remanufactured on Ebay.

I also have had good luck with a Dewalt 18V 1/2 impact. I have the smaller one though that is rated at 120ft/lbs I think. Makes rotating tires easy. I bought the smaller one because I thought I would want to use it in tight spaces like around the suspension or something, and felt the bigger Dewalt would not fit in areas when I wanted it. Has made a lot of jobs on my vechicles a lot easier. I have had to break an exhaust bolt loose with a breakover once, then the impact took care of the rest.

I have a 3/8's snap on that I use at work and love it. The cars I work on have dozens of little bolts that it zaps right off. Defintally a life saver, as for taking off rusted and more heavly torqued bolt's I stick with a 1/2" air impact.

A local guy has some nice compact cordless Milwaukee impacts, small as hell but he says they do a helluva job.

Its taken off crank pulley bolts and front wheel drive axles nuts. 80 and 100ft-lbs lugnuts those come off with ease.
