New info on Mickey Thompson's new drag radial
Everyone is wanting to know about these tires and when they're coming out. I noticed awhile back a member on supraforums was lucky enough to be able to get his hands on the new design/tread in a 315-35-17. I sent him a PM and asked a few questions about how the tires were, as I wanted some real world results about these new tires.
And this was his response:
"The tires are awsome in the dry, definately better than bfg drag radials hands down. They do not spin @500whp in 1st 2nd or 3rd gear (cold). Unlike the bfg's that need a good burnout to really hook. I havent taken them to the track yet as I put them on in december I think. I will know here next month how they work out at the track. They are not good in wet weather at all, I almost lost control a few times around a corner at 20mph. The bfg's definately work better in the rain. I wouldnt recomend them to anyone who drives with allot of rain. But the dry traction is awsome and worth it. As of now I have around 9-10k miles on them and they are still about 75% left. I think they come with 8/32nds tread new. They do have a bit of sway on them unlike the bfgs (even at 40psi) this is probably because they have a very soft sidewall for a radial, I mean really soft, somewhat like a bias ply drag tire. Which should work for us guys with the 6speed as it should keep down the driveshaft breakage."
"Just took lunch and was merging onto the freeway in 2nd gear, flored it and spun all througn 2nd to wear the tires in a bit. Got off the exit and went in 1st gear like normal and then floored it around 4k till around 8k, shifted to 2nd and they hooked like grazy with zero wheel spin!!. I usually light up my 315 R compound Advan's. And this was with the weather around 55 degrese outside. I had bfg dr (2754017) before and they didnt hook to save their life when it was cold."
I know everyone has seen these pictures
And here's actual pictures of them on the car

305/35/18! The tire sizes listed are amazing. They really took this tire to a new level....
That's exciting, but getting 9k out of them is rediculous. He obviously lays into the throttle often, so the 9k life with 75% tread remaining is not right. Straight up...
I get 5k out of my 17" BFGs with maybe 5 track runs, and street driving/beating.

fit on a 9" wheel, but they are really like a 295. If the Nittos fit, I'm
assuming a 295/45/17 would fit as well.
Nice option for an 18" wheel. I'd like to upgrade to some 18" wheels
for a daily driver setup. These would be perfect.

People run 315 Nittos on factory WS6 wheels because they run narrow. It's still wrong, and people have still had blowouts/failures. LOL then they wonder why...
The sidewall on the 295/45/17 is also almost a full inch taller than the factory 275/40/17. So it's going to buldge pretty bad. That, combined with the really soft sidewall.... The tire separating/tearing off of the bead is definately possible.

and I've not heard of a single issue. I've run through three pair so far.
Good point on the tire height.

they don't want to.
They don't hook well enough for me anyway. 28" slicks to the rescue.
