Default Goodyears worth the $$$?

just bought new wheels for the car (17x9.5 and 17x11 ZR1s) and am looking into tires. I have heard a lot of good things about the GS-D3s but damn they are pricey. Are they worth the extra dough or is there something out there w/ similar performance for less money?

Some are experencing road noise, strange wear, and issues balancing them. I was going to get some as well but I found the issues I mentioned. I ended up going with BFG KD's, 315's and 275's, they ended up being a lil more than the GS-D3's but I love them.

i dont think their worth it in terms of lasting. Yea they grip amazing but seriously spending over 200 on a tire that wont last is worthless. i got the bfg gforces and they are awesome. Ive already have riden well over 3k miles on them and havent lost one bit of tread and i am an aggressive driver.

Most of these places that sell online have a section for customer testimonials. Look at some of those to see what people think of the tires they bought. I see that a lot of them are from people who have these Japanese cars, that they put big wheels on. A 2500 lb rice burner won't push a tire like a real car will, so you might have to search to find one from somebody with a real car, like a Vette, a Z or a T/A.
I actually have read testimonials from a lot of vette owners that love 'em, but that may not justify the cost. It seems like the KDWs seem to be another favorite. Ill have to look into that. If anyone else has any personal experience or suggestions thatd be helpful i would appreciate it. thanks

I had the GS-D3s on my 17x11 ZR-1s before I swapped my new wheels on and I loved them. At that time I was driving my Bird every day and commuting from Chicago to Florida every other month and I got quite a bit of mileage out of them. The reason I went with the GS-D3s was because I have no traction control and I wanted the best wet/dry performance tire I could get. Right now I only drive my car on the weekend and I've got some 18in BFG drag radials on so I won't go out in the rain with them. To be honest, if you don't have to daily drive that car, I would consider looking into some drag radials, they make for real good fun when the sun shines! Either way, as long as you stick to BFG and Goodyear, I don't think you can go wrong. Those other brands may have a nice pricepoint, but when it comes down to it they just aren't on the same level. Not to mention, the tread patterns on the GS-D3s and BFGs are real badass looking.

Thanks for the input, thats really the type of info i needed to hear. The car does occasionally get driven in the rain (im not worried about water touching the car its meant to be ) so i dont think radials are for me. Plus is like showing it and the way the tires look do make a difference. Im leaning towards the GS-D3s... it seams they are prolly worth it . Thanks

I've heard alot of good things about the GS-D3s, my buddy's got them on his Terminator. I took him for a ride in the Z on my BFG KDW's, he was impressed. Trouble is, I don't think they make a 315-35/17 in the KDW so you'd have to go with the KD.

Either way the KD and the GS-D3 are a 100% max performance tire and some treadlife will be sacrificed in the name of grip. However the Goodyears will definitely be more friendly in the water. The GS-D3's are killer looking tires though. I say either way you can't go wrong.

I think the GS-D3 has an ugly tread edge. It looks like a truck tire how the tread wraps over the edge.
I personally prefer the BFG line. However I do love my GY Eagle F-1 GS, but they don't offer a 315.
I had some BFG KDW on my other wheels and loved them. The KD is sweet, but more expensive and doesn't last as long. The KDWS is a great all weather tire.
