Im not sure what your asking. To go wider you would need to step up to a 285 tire. Maybe Im reading your question wrong.

GS D3, or BFG. Get a BFG KDW 285/40/17. It is wide, but fits.

i don't understand either... 275 MM across is 275 MM across no matter what tire you have.... unless that is not true.

That is not the case with most tires. Some are wider in the same MM as others, it just depends on the brand. Not all 275 MM tires will be EXACTLY 275MM, try it out with a ruler if you have same size tires in different brands with your car and your friends car, they will probably be a little bit differernt in overall width. It is strange, but true. Another reason why some people have an easier time getting 315's on their car compared to others.

if you go with a any 275, and get a wider wheel... they should all be within .1 inches from each other... you can fit a 285 on a 9.5 wheel or stretch out a 275 on a 9.5 in wheel. if you're worried about traction, get some 275 DRs. i've tried the M/Ts and BFGs and like the BFGs...cheaper and are lasting longer!

If you want wider tires, don't worry about the .1" difference between makers, just go with 285's

The 275 is NOT the tread width!!!!!!!!!!
It is the cross section of the widest part of the tire. Which would be sidewall bulge to sidewall bulge.

here are some pics of BFG KDW in a 285/40 on a stock 17x9 SS wheel.

315/35/R17s in back w/11in rim. I have seen same tire on 9in rim but I've also heard not to mount a tire that wide on a 9in rim. had to cut bumpstops off but havent had any problems even on speed bumps. Sorry no pics but maybe soon.
