Nitto and BFG and MT: is that all?
I promise I won't beat this dead horse any more after this. Really. For drag radials, does anyone make a product that bridges the gap between the Nitto 555R (pretty decent treadwear, not-so-good traction) and the BFG or Mickey T. drag radials (crappy treadwear, usable traction)?
Just looked back at my records and I've officially worn out my 315/35/17 BFGs in 1700 miles with zero burnouts... just fun on the street with some 50 mile commute days tossed in. Breaking traction from time to time, yes.
But I couldn't get squat for street traction from my Nitto 555Rs, I can't go back to those.
I just wondered if there were any drag radials outside these usual suspects that would hook better than the 555Rs while giving me a little better wear than the BFGs. Oh, and world peace, too.
Thanks, guys...
Other than that, I'd recommend the MT or hoosier drag radials, or et streets. A stickier tire will wear out fast naturally, but you will be hooking up better so you might see less tire spin at higher speeds reducing unnecessary tire wear.
02EBZ06, I see what you're saying. I guess part of my question relates to how much of my ultra-fast wear on the BFGs is due to the highway commuting... whether 20 minutes at 60-80 mph gets them so hot that it causes increased wear. Or if the problem is chunking out tread when I spin in 2nd or 3rd.
Maybe I'll just go with the MT's and see if they're any better.

My Nittos were really quite durable, but just plain scary on this car once I went to the turbo setup.
A friend of mine has a 97 Supra turbo car, 76mm single turbo and makes around 580 rwhp on 20 psi. He had some worn nittos on the car for a while, they were fine when he was on stock twins and 400~ rwhp. Now that he's got this single he's needing alot more tire. When he got his car tuned and all, it wouldn't hook in 3rd. I finally talked him into going with the MT radials and he loves them. The car will now hook in 2nd (unless the tires are cold or it's cold outside ...below 50*) even with the boost upped to 25 and the rwhp is probably around 650ish. At the track with a mild 2nd gear burnout he was extatic to cut a 2.0 60' (great for someone that consistently cut 2.3s-2.4s with nittos and not much track experience).
Get them. DO IT...DO IT
Oh yeah these were both 275/40/17s
