Default Help with DR decisions and rims...

Im lookin for a nice set of DR's. If I could get my 60 foots down Ill be damn near 12's. 2.2-2.3 sec 60's aint cuttin it. Anyway What are some good cheap light rear rims to run em on? Im thinkin goin 16-17 in. I was even thinkin just steel wheels painted SOM with a nice shiny moon cap in the middle. Just might look bad *** with some MT's. What do you think?

And maybe if Reidonly doesnt mind. Maybe photochop some SOM steelies on the back from his pics in here... https://ls1tech.com/forums/wheels-tires/743215-02-som-ss-wheels.html

Thanks
Erik

First off, 'steelies' ... don't know if your local track will be too keen on them. Secondly, I don't know how wide they come, but you're gonna want at least an 8" wheel width. Lastly they look like ***.
My vote is to find a pair of painted 10 spokes (like in your sig) or whatever wheels you have on the car now, and mount some MT radials in a 275/40/17 on them. That will be more than enough tire for what you're after....just don't launch it too hard or you'll shred that rearend.

Just go with the welds, in either an 8" or a 10" depending on how soon you wanna break your rear end, lol

Yeah I know the rearends gonna shred eventually. And Im having trouble finding a 16X9 steelie. 17x9's a lil easier to find. Let alone worrying about back spacing. I just think it would look different and in my eyes cool to have a SOM Steel rim with a moon disk in the middle just for the track. I dont think there would be any prob runnin steelies at the track. Of course the nice shiny moon disk would prob disappear somewhere down the track....

ok back again.... Heres basically the look im goin for for the rear rims,,,

A chevy rallye rim. I could find a 16X10 that might work out well with a 285 or 295 tire. I just dont get the idea of backspacing and off set I would need. Can anyone PM me a site that maybe sell updated versions of these to fit modern cars?

Thanks

I finally found a vintage repro site. The can special make the rims with some play in backspacing. I emailed them to see what they could do. I dont have much info on the Rim but they do have a 17X10 option. No idea on what backspacing I would need with that Rim.

I would get 2 of those. You can either get them with a 5 inch backspace and get a 1/2 inch spacer or order them with custom 5.5 inch backspace. Not too expensive and will give you the look your going for I think. You can also paint them pretty easy with SOM.

Dude I'm sorry... I know exactly what you're envisioning but hahahahahahha that looks so funny!

On a side note I bet it would look dope with some black steelies with chrome moons on there. Maybe check out WheelVintiques, they seem to have everything steelie. They even make steelie skinnies I think.

Thats exactly what I was looking at Pony. I Think they could pass for nice with a lil paint. And Tork I think I saw that sight. I emailed them about fitment. And they did have some 17X6's on there. Could prob throw a 195 or 205 tire on em up front to save some weight. Just want to try something different thats not too expensive just incase it looks sucky. And yes making that drawing was very difficult for me... ha

The wheels I posted above are Chevy Rallye wheels made by Wheel Vintiques. You can get 15x4 ones for the front and have a matching set. I'm not sure on if you will have to do any caliper grinding or not for the fronts. I think I'm going to go this route for my drag setup.
