Default Painting CCW'S?

I have been contemplating whether or not I should get my centers painted or powdercoated black. I have a thing for black rims and a big chrome lip. if possible can someone photoshop a pic of my car just to give me and idea of how it would look. Just before anyone says anything I do plan on getting her lowered.

I would have them powdercoated instead of painted.

The finish will look the same either way. Powdercoating should be more durable but CCW ran into some problems with the powdercoater they were using and stopped offering it so I'm not sure what that tells you. I'm asking them which avenue they recommend as I'm going to be doing the centers of my wheels anthracite or silver brushed.

I had one of the first, if not the first, set of black powder coated centered CCW street classic wheels. They took the black anodized centers and then appplied a gloss black powder finish over that. They realy looked sharp with the polished rims.

The powder is sprayed on then baked to a durable finish. If I understood correctly, the powder coating people were having trouble getting the powder on and sticking without "running". They had to do 6 centers in order to get 4 good ones.

If you mean pix of the wheels on the car, no I don't, as I don't have a digital camera. If you go to CCW's website and look, I think they show the black anodized classics. Just picture them in a gloss finish, and that's what mine looked like.

How about a translucent black powder coat so they look black chrome? I did this to my chrome street bike wheels, it came out great.

I would never paint rims that are worth as much as CCW's. I think powdercoating would look great and would hold up longer. Im 50/50 on that one though, if I was in your shoes I probably wouldn't do it just because im always changing my mind about what "look" im going for with my car.

I honestly don't understand why people are buying 2-5,000 dollar rims and painting them black? Why don't you just get some cheap rims and not bastardize a really nice set of rims?

The only reason i'm considering it is because I have really bad waterspots on them that will not come off. If I can get them to come off then I wouldn't worry about it.

Why? Painting, powdercoating, they're both types of finishes. The thing about paint is that the painter has a little more control over how the finish comes out if he's good and skilled with the gun. You can get more precision out of a paint job AND you can always strip it without too much of a hassle and go back to full polished if you want. There isn't a single bit of difference between paint and powdercoat as long as you take care of the wheels. They'll both hold up for the life of the car.

I'd only go black if they worked with the car. Mine will maintain the polished lip and I'll either have the spokes and barrels painted a shade of silver similar to the BMW below on HREs or possibly just painting the sides of the spokes and inside of the barrels and leaving the face and lips of the wheels polished. The major pain with the 505As for me is getting in between the split spokes and the barrels to polish them. The lips and faces are easy to take care of IMO.

Its also important to note that you have less control over the exact color you want as batches of powdercoat aren't nearly as easy to manipulate to the exact color you want as paint is. Also powdercoating has to be baked on and depending on the grade of aluminum of the wheel the baking process and temperatures required can compromise the structural strength of the metal. Its important to check the grade of aluminum and the temperatures for which your particular powdercoating finish is cured at. A safe bet is 300* and that eliminates alot of powders out there. Although a little more durable you dont have the control that you do with typical paint. I think I'll stick with a guy who knows what he's doing behind a spray gun.

Hmmmmmm...not quite understanding how you have water spots that you can get off. You can definitely wet sand on these rims and polish them out with the right tools. I'd highly doubt you'd have your water spots after that. Just takes some elbow grease and a decent corded drill with some buffing wheels.

More than anything I want to keep them how they are. When I say these spots are bad they are bad. If you guys can give me a detailed and effective process to get them off I will do it. I spen 2 hours yesterday polishing them and they still look horrible. From far away they look good and shiny but up closer they make me wanna throw up.
