What is a good tire?
What is a good tire? Hey whats going on? I just bought a 2000 trans am and a set of z06 rims. Im looking for some good rear tires that are good for grip and that will last on the road. I have heard that nitto 555 are going to be my best match. If anyone has some suggestions let me know. Thanks

the regular nitto 555's are a very good tire. iv had a lot of differant brands and the nittos are the best so far. the nitto drags are very sticky for the street and they last abot 12-15k miles is your not to hard on them,

it depends on if you plan on driving the car year round and the weather of the area you live in...also depends on the route you plan on going with the car...ive heard a lot of good things about the nitto555r's...another one ive heard a lot of good things about is the MT ET Streets (wouldnt drive with wet roads)...

I am currently running BFG G-Force TA KDs. Very sticky for street tires, especially when hot. Never saw the bad traction in water that people talk about but I wasn't doing cookies on the highway during a downpour though... I imagine they aren't great on water but I didn't get a F-body to be treading water. Plus I live in Phoenix atm 
Very expensive and don't last very long though, I got exactly what I expected. I like them but I think I'll try the Eagle F1 GS-D3s next.

I have Nitto's 555R and they're the best drag radials by far on the road for the $$$, and you wont have any problem with traction.Whatever you do dont get Good Year F1, too mu ch money for a POS,thats just my opinion.Two brand new Nittos will cost you as much as one new F1, you decide

you have to realize that any type of pure D/R isnt going to last long on a DD car under normal driving conditions....you might get several thousand miles but in reality thats not alot....when compared to one of the more expensive all weather tires, keeping them balanced, the car aligned and correct air pressure will make them last long...my advice is to get some good all weather tires and then go get a extra set of two rims...and run some MT d/rs....best on the market....
I'm not running at the track, but I love my Toyo Proxes 4's. I don't think they can be beat for their quality/performance/price on the street. Drag is a whole different thing though.
I bought a set of Nitto 450s and they are some of the best all around dry/wet tires I have ever ran on the street. They hookup good enough to keep your rearend from trying to pass you when you hit second gear and will go thru water pooled up on the road without looseing grip when it rains.

Nitto's here, and no problems. I've had them for about 30,000 miles and still ton's of tread. They've seen the mini-autocross on the PowerTour, so that's all the performance driving they've been put through, and were OK. Plus, it rains almost everyday in Florida, so wet weather they're good.
