Default Which is faster? 275 or 315

I know 315s look sick and more rubber is more traction, but which would be better on a bolt on power car? Does the weight of 315s out weigh the traction benefits? I know my car is mostly stock now, but will eventually be a full bolt on car:

So which is better, please state your opinion on appearance and performance.

My two options:

Keep SS wheels, red bowtie centers, and nitto drag radials in the spring.

or

Buy ZR1s 315 out back with red bowtie centers, and nitto drag radials.

i would do the 315 option. you will get the want for more power after bolt ons. just get that option out of the way. either way if you like the 10 spokes which do look good then just stick with those. will look nice either way imo. good luck!

I have 17x11 ZR's with 315 nitto DR and love them. I'm about to purchase some "lightweight wheels" Just for the track and see what the difference is.

275 will be faster, simply because the wheels and tires will weigh less. Less rotating mass will make you faster. However, because the 315s weigh more, they will slow the car down a bit, making it easier to get traction, which may translate into 315s actually being faster, depending on your driving skills.

No noticeable difference in performance over stock 16's with 245's and 17 inch TTM's with 315's here besides traction..

Are you sure?

JK!!

It really does come down to your set-up. Quickness and speed are two different things. The taller tire will net more SPEED. 275/40/17's and 315/35/17's are VERY close in height (+/- 1/4"). The rim dia. will have an difference making impact on these 2 sizes.

If you're concerned at all about quickness; .. unless you can blow the tread on a 275/40/17, I wouldn't go to the heavier 315 tire, just as Mr. 3.4camaro mentioned

I would say keep the SS wheels and get 275 MT ET street radials. You will get traction and will be faster plus I dont like the way the ZR1 wheels look. I am not saying that is the faster of the two options, just that Nitto's are junk tires and you will hook with MT's which = faster time.

315s will help getting off the line(traction). But 275s will be lighter and have less wind resistance. So... how about 315s in back and 275s up front? ...no I didn't read everyone elses response.

I'm sitting here trying to answer that question for myself. New wheels and possibly tires are on the way.

I don't know if I should go with a 17x11" with 315's for a bolt on car. On the other hand I don't want to deceide later to go with a cam and not have enough traction....

i got the ZR1's on today, they look amazing. i might try to put some pics up to ***** it out. a lot more traction even cold, a lot less fishtailing from a dead stop.

Kinda forgot about this thread, I love the 315s! Although they are narrower than others, I still think they look damn good. They look a lot better and wider in person. The pics dont do it justice! It doesnt seem any slower from the weight, feels better getting some traction in even single digits. Not much but better than the 275s were.

Yes you can. Its common practice for autox and RR cars. You need the 36mm offset in the front or use spacers with 50mm offset. It would follow ruts more than 275's do though.
