Question Why do they charge you more for a tire with less rubber?

I never understood this. A 275/40/17 has more rubber than a 275/35/18 but the 275/35/18 cost more. I follow the 18 inch rim costing more than the 17 but the tire should be the opposite, shouldn't it? Is there a good explanation or is this kind of like the media companies raping us by charging more for CD's and DVD's when they are far cheaper to produce than the tapes they replaced?

Because they can. Same reason they charge more for a 90mm FAST intake yet it's less material than a 78mm.

well alot more goes into the production of that size since its bigger and more specialized so to speak..why is a 19 inch tire more expensive than 22's...cause they are a lil more rare..a bad analogy i know but you get the point

Actually no. The reason is because it costs less to manufacture large amounts of things. You buy materials in bulk. When you make limited quantities of things, or use less quantity to make something you need to charge more to cover the costs, almost to make up for the product that "could have been made or sold". Companies are just covering the cost of making the tires. Sure it sucks to be you guys.
