Default Bent a wheel lip, need assistance

Well took the car out for it's first cruise and manage to put the front left rim into a nice little pothole. Anyway, the lip of my TT2 is a bit bent in one area. I'm thinking about taking a mallet and trying to bend it back a bit. Dumb idea or may it work? I'm really peeved. Thanks.

Guess no one in the wheel forum has ever bent a rim. Anyway, I decided to try the mallet trick and I got it looking a bit better. It's not perfect and still is going to bother me. I will have it sent out at some point for repair. The car still drives straight luckily and the tire is still holding air.

Take a hammer and place a piece of wood on the bent in order to shape it back without damaging the wheel, it takes one or two hits only, it is easy to fix.

I'll give that a shot to finish it off. A square piece will be fine or do I need to shape it to the wheels curvature? Thanks for the tip.
