Default Who thinks 285/40-18 is a terrible idea?

I'm considering getting 285/40-18s for 18x9.5 wheels but am concerned about increasing my tire height by 1.3 inches (from the 275/40-17s i have now). It would decrease my cruising rpm by 5% but would they just be heavy and not fit/look very good?

IMHO, defeats the entire purpose of going to 18" wheels. . . . they fit but the tire looks very tall . . . .

I'd go with 275/35ZR18 or 285/35ZR18.

Yeah I want 285/35 or 275/35 but I'm kinda limiting myself to BFG KDW 2s. What I really want is 295/35 on a 10.5 wheel but I'm having trouble contacting tomzwheels and am looking towards LMPerformance because I need the wheels real soon, but they don't carry 18x10.5, except in C6 Z06

BBBBBBut ofcourse LMPerformance has to be closed this week just to make my life run smoothly.

It's a crappy pic, but i have 40 sidewalls and they look fine. I hate it when the sidewalls are higher in the front than the back.

Yeah, that's exactly what my problem was I wanted BFG KDW2 and the tirerack sizes are limited to those. Other tire distributors have the other sizes though.
