I'd guess increased tire wear and less traction.
In the rain though, it would be like driving on ice. Channels are cut in tires to rid the contact patch of water. If you reverse that pattern, it would channel the water right to the contact patch.

Well, when you put gear selector in reverse the car will drive forward, and in Drive it will go backwards. It takes some getting used to, but after a while it becomes 2nd nature.

You go into the ditch! Don't try it.
Firestone, BF Goodrich, Dunlop and Goodyear...
Anyway, I am getting the swithed on the rims next week..
No difference in ride quality. Smooth in excess of 100mph. Much less handling the rain as predicted...

you should be fine as long as it's dry.
When it's wet, instead of throwing the water away, you bring it towards the center of the wheel and will hydroplane quite fast.

The real answer...... At sustained high speed your tires will tear apart and at moderate speeds it will put stress on the tire to the point where only a short distance of high speed will pull apart the tire.....scary isn't it?

Working at discount tire, I've seen cars come in with directionals pointed the wrong way, but it's dangerous to run them that way. They were designed to only rotate at high speeds in one direction. Running them backwards could become fatal for you and for others... ESPECIALLY in the rain (think trying to drive drag slicks in the rain). I wouldn't do it personally.

Re: What happens if you run directional tires backwards?
I know this will be a little in your face but you are a friggin idiot if you run those things backwards! This is my view of it.
In High School I had a good good friend of mine Daniel Stalneker. He had a 91 or 92 Z28 the ones with the TPI 350.Well he had new Eagles put on.back then that was the ****!Well they put them on backwards at the Damn store! The front two too.
The next afternoon he was driving home from school on a straight section of road and passed a car leaving a stoplight. As his Z was passing the front end was lifting under acceleration and drifted right off the road into a MF-in tree.....HEAD -ON...needless to say one of my good friends died that afternoon!Soooo go ahead you've been warned. The Police report reads "improper equipment on vehicle"....and yes weather did play a small part for the roads were wet but NOT puddled at all.
