Default Absolute best tire for treadware?

My mother needs new tires for her 97 3000 GT. Its only the base SOHC model so she doesn't need any high speed rated tire nor is she worried about dry/wet traction or anything of the sort. The only concern is tread ware. What is the best tire for the money for tread ware?

Ive only browsed on Tirerack and the cheapest with an excellent treadware ratings are these:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....nSpeedRating=V

The car has aftermarket rims on it but I believe they might be the same size as OEM, current tires on the car are 225/55/16s. A tire with a much higher profile would be fine. The main concerns for her are costs and how long they last.

performance and tread ware are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Also with my experience, the harder the tread (longer lasting), the less grip on cornering/etc. so it'll squeal like crazy on turns.

Also, I've gone for cheap tires and I wouldn't do it again. Started dry rotting in like a year or two with plenty of tread left.

Like I stated grip, noise, or any other factors are not a problem. Performance tires are the only kind listed for this car on Tirerack. A standard tire would be fine, but Im thinking shes getting pigeon holed into performance tires because of the car type/rim size.

Don't search based on the car. Search by size, the same size that's on there now would be the obvious choice, unless it isn't the same diameter as the stock tire

Got pretty much the same result. They make it infuriatingly ******* difficult to search for when my only true criteria is 50-60,000 miles of treadlife. I know that's not really possible on cars like ours but like I said this is just a passenger car and is never driven hard. Even when I search for '60,000 mile tire' all I get is a link from Tire rack preaching against buying tires by mileage. Well after an hour of ******* searching, it looks like I don't even have that option anymore.

Why not look for something that has the best mix of safety/longevity? I'd much rather have a tire that was a better performer in wet weather than one that lasts longer but sucks in the rain.

Here ya go man, 60k tires and still H-rated so it handles great.
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...81&rd=16&ar=55

Not sure if there are any Discount Tire stores in SC, but you can always get them online and get em mounted at a shop near you.

I worked for Discount for 3 years, these are probably some of the best tires that we sold there, and they aren't very expensive for the quality.

Thanks a bunch for the info!

Ive got one more question though. How much can I vary in size? For instance, Ive noticed 205 profile tires are cheaper than 225s(I thought it would be the other way around) Would these still fit? How much can I deviate from standard width?
