weight of front (street) tires? help me pick
trying to clip some weight off the car i am going from iforged rims to bogart rr rims.
i was just about to commit to buy a set of bfg kdw tires (kinda match the tread of my MT's) when it hit me to check the weight of them.
tire rack says they are 28# each.. ok so i look around at other tires.. and they are about the heaviest there is! (245/45/17) 8" front wheel
i found that the continental contisport contact 3 is about the lightest at 22# so that would take 12# of rotating weight off the front of the car.
i have never bought continental and the tread isnt as nice looking but they are more expensive so i assume a very good tire, and i need a tire that wont come loose on my over 150mph at the track.
i currently have kumho ecsta mx tires which are 25# each
here is a link comparing all 3 including the weights. anybody else worry about this? anybody else have suggestions

I'm in the same boat as you, just a couple days late..and on a tighter budget. I just sold my old zo6 rims last nite and I'm going with a 17x11 wheel and a hoosier 315 DR. I'm going to order a set of chrome zr1s from tomzwheels, but I'm not sure if I want to run a 8.5 or 9.5 front. The 11s that the 8.5s match as far as brand/spoke shape don't have the 'deep lip' look to them that I was going for...but I want to cut some weight off the front if possible...
Did you end up going with the continental contisport contact 3s in a 245/45/17?

Personally I would stay well away from Continental tires. That's what came stock on my truck and they were terrible. Sucked in the rain, were very loud, rode very rough, and all 4 tires were completely gone within 12,000 miles. I did some research on the net to see if that was a common issue and every review I read about any of their tires said the same thing.

I like Fuzion ZRI's for a good performing front tire that pretty cheap. $98 a piece on tire rack and they weigh 27lbs. Pirelli and goodyear make some high performance tires that weigh less though. Most of them are around 24-26lbs.

i have general tires on my jeep and they are great, but their super low price scares me away in this case

Why not go a little smaller in size , like 235/45/17 they'll save you a few lbs(each) over the 245/45/17, plus you can mount them on up to a 9" rim!
And there just a little shorter.
235/45/17 = 25.32"
245/45/17 = 25.68"
You can also run a 225/45/17 on up to a 8" wheel, for more weight savings,But not in all brands.
225/45/17 = 24.97"
I think 235/45/17 is your best bet!
