18" Wheel Frustration
Ok... I decided I'm going to buy a set of 18 x 9.5/18 x 10.5" C6 Z06 wheels to give my car the right look with it's new paint coming this winter. I decided to finally go wide in the back, because I've got for traction at this point. M6, 3:90 rear, 420ish rwhp (470 by the time I'm done modding)... I might as well have a sheet of ice on my 275 Sumitomos in the back right now.
I'm looking for tires now (Tomzwheels hooked it up sweet on the wheels). I wanted to run a 275 in the front and a 315 in the back, but tire choices are very limited.
Here's the relevant tire sizes I can find:
275/35/18 (25.58" diameter, the obvious choice for the front)
275/40/18 (26.66" diameter)
285/35/18 (25.85" diameter)
295/35/18 (26.13" diameter)
315/30/18 (25.44" diameter, only available in Michelin, Yokohama, Pirelli, and other competition/drag radials, all very expensive)
335/30/18 (25.91" diameter, I love it, just don't think it'll fit the fenderwell or the rim)
Imaginary sizes I wish someone made:
315/35/18 (26.68" diameter, perfect match for the 275/40/18s )
The car is stock height now, but will soon be lowered on Hotchkis or a Prokit.
So what's my best option here, guys? I need some more traction, without completely breaking the bank. I had BFG KDWs in mind, but it looks like that's out unless I run the 295s or the 335s in the rear. Can't use drags or comp tires, it's a DD. What are the rest of you running? I'd hate to put 295s on and have them look too small for the rim.
Any advice? I've searched until I'm turning blue at this point.
Edit: Yes, I already have an adjustable PHB

If you want cheap 315s then the sumitos or whatever are $100 a piece.. but for the power your putting down I don't think itll help much. If you want traction and you want wide tires then you should have figured out that tires would be expensive before you got wide wheels... If you want to hook with street tires decently your going to need to shell out a good penny for GOOD street tires.

Xsta Z 28 is running a nice combo there....and traction isn't only about tires, if you don't have the proper suspension parts along with them... tires alone aren't going to do much for you.

Yeah, I know tires aren't going to do everything, but they can definitely help. I've got a decent suspension, though. UMI Tunnel Mount Adj TA, Spohn LCAs, and Adj PHB. More will be done in the future, but that's where it stands for now. Next upgrade is probably Hotchkis/SLP Bilsteins.

.07" difference on top and bottom isn't very noticeable at all.
I run 275/35r18's up front and 315/35r18 BFG DR's on the rear. I have Stranos on the rear. So, as long as your offset is right they fit with the BFH. FYI-I had your goal of 470 RWHP (until the motor let go). I liked them, but with a couple of dragstrip runs I could watch the tread disappear!

I prefer 275 fronts and 295 rears on f-bodies. The extra width isn't worth the hassle if you are concerned with just visuals. Tire brand means more than width when it comes to traction.
If you are that concerned with visuals, some nicer multi-piece wheels with a fat rear lip would have been far more visually enhancing than just tire width.

I actually really LOVE the C6 Z06 wheels in satin black, and I don't know if I'd change them even if I was given some nicer forged wheels. Plus, I don't have Nine Ball money, I have jmdale1984 money

Why has no one mentioned this yet?
305/35-18 Nitto Drag Radial for the back, 275/35-18 Nitto NT555 for the front. Tires match, 305s out back, taller tire, everything you want.
To everyone who thinks that the Nittos are just the skinniest tires in the world that just is not true, a 305mm Nitto is a wide tire and will look nice out back.
When I get around to getting new wheels and tires it will be a 265/35-18 and 315/30-18 BFG combo, both are similar in height and I want the wide 315s out back.

If you can find a 315/30/18 BFG, then let me know. All I can find in that size are (street tires):
Hankooks
Michelin PS2s
Yokohama Advans
Pirellis
All of those are either too expensive, with too little wear, or junk... think I'm better off with the KDW2s in a 295.
