Default Are aftermarket speakers interchangeable with stock speakers!

So, I waisted two of my stock speakers and was wanting to upgrade to a nice aftermarket speaker. My question is: Is it possible to simply swap out speakers or does the stock system require all new wiring throughout the car?
Anyone recomend a good speaker?
FYI It's a 2000 ws6 ta..

Not sure about TA's but on camaro's you can. But you guys have the actual separate components so i'd imagine you could just swap it out for a comp set.

which speakers blew?

i always read about the 2 ohm 4 ohm stuff how you need whatever speaker to replace the sail panels etc. first i had some 5 1/4 inch sony xplod speakers in there and now i have the one side powering an 8" alpine sub in my trunk haha. so i guess you can use aftermarket speakers without problems.

Looks like ta's are alot more complicated than camaros. you have a 6.5" component system in the front doors(mid is 2 ohm and tweeter is 4 ohm), a 6.5" dvc 4 ohm sub in the sail, and a 4" component system in the hatch(4 ohm mid and 4 ohm tweeter). So with that said you can swap out speakers with those specs, but you prob wont find a 6.5" comp set with seperate ohm's between the mid and tweeter.

yeah i replaced all stock ones about 6 months ago but im redoing it now. I'm doing a comp set in the front door and a comp set in the sail panel and running them off a 4 channel amp so i dont have to mess with the stock wiring and just run my own.

Check with Kee Audio (forum sponsor), he has complete kits of speakers designed to replace all of the stock ones or you can pick and choose which ones you want to replace.

I sent him a PM but have not heard back yet. There is nothing worst then hearing your favorite jam through blown speakers!

Give him some time...he recently had back surgery and may not be checking messages as frequently as usual. In the meantime you could check out his Camaro/Firebird speaker upgrade page at http://www.keeaudio.com/id79.html.

I am swiching back to my stock sail pannel speakers. I will be selling my ED's. They are the correct OHM for the Monsoon system. Shot me a PM if you are interested. I also alread have pigtails made for them to plug direct into the factory wire harness.

The eD 7kv.2 subs are great speakers for the sail panels with a stock system but you need a spacer to make them fit right.

You can't correctly switch the front speakers without providing your own amp if you have the Monsoon system.

That depends on what you mean by "correctly". It's hard to find component sets that have a 2-ohm woofer and 4-ohm tweeter so in that sense there is no correct aftermarket replacement (although you could buy 2-ohm AND 4-ohm component sets and mix-and-match). But you can certainly find 4-ohm component sets that have enough sensitivity to overcome the impedance difference and sound quite good in the doors with the factory amp. I put CDTs in my doors and they sound much better than stock despite being 4-ohm.

None of them are good, really. With subwoofers, just like with engines, there is no replacement for displacement.

The CDTs work quite nicely in the doors with the factory inline high-pass filters for the tweeters. I put the CDT crossovers on a shelf in my garage for possible future use but I've seen no need for them yet.

Not exactly...you're looking for 6.5S (6.5" oversize) dual voice coil (DVC) 4-ohm subs. The size allows you to use 6.5", 6.5S, or 6.75" speakers in that location but there are very few DVC subs in those sizes. There is the eD 7kv.2 6.5" sub that works very nicely but it's deeper than stock and requires a spacer for installation. Kee Audio sells Bazooka and Audiopipe DVC subs that may not be an audiphile's choice but are a significant improvement over stock and mount in the sail panels without modification.
