Re: Capacitor What if I was to run a Solobaric S12L7 with a MTX1501D. I think thats around 750w RMS. Then I have a little jensen amp for the components, I think thats about 200w RMS. Running the stock alternator. Would I need a capacitor?

Re: Capacitor A capacitor is something that will always help when in installed properly. There are no downsides to having a capacitor installed in your system. But a capacitor is not a miracle cure and you still have to use proper wire gauge for both power and ground.

Re: Capacitor A capacitors purpose is tp provide instantaneous power to your bass amp during peaks .A cap will help any high power system with a subwoofer amp,even with a high amp alternator I would still use a cap to provide smooth tight bass .Oh and I have been doing stereo installs for 19 years and managed half a dozen shops in that time .Also you will need a minumum of 4 gauge wire ,and it is recomended 1 farad of capacitance for 1000 watts ,500 watts = 1/2 farad and so on .

Re: Capacitor it also depends on your amps power supply. whether its regulated or un regulated. my old kicker zr and xs amps showed very little improvement using caps and almost had the same output at 9volts as it did with 14volts. no my fosgate power amps took quite well to the capacitors with a very very noticable improvement but still didnt like 9volts. its all in the power supply. and i do agree to get the most out of a multiple compenent system a high output alternator should be used. its like the heads to a cammed car. capacitors are like naaaaawwwwwwsss!
