New HU or ipod interface?

New HU or ipod interface? Well, after looking, the ipod interface is $105 and doesn't work with my ipod shuffle 1/4 stereo jack. Would I be better off with a new HU with an aux input, and if so, is there one or two that aren't crazy expensive that folks agree are great choices? I saw a Sony cdxgt430ip for $116, a JVC kdr300 for $85, and a Pioneer DEH21001b for $114. Now if these are cheap junk, let me know what to look for. They all had 50w x 4, understanding that is probably pretty dirty power.

I am not mr. electronic techno man anymore and I use my shuffle at the gym and love it. But I guess I don't really like the looks of aftermarket HU's in my high end Trans Am. 
I also realize that a $100 radio is probably just that, junk.
I also realize that a $100 radio is probably just that, junk. IMO even a $100.00 HU is much better then the stock unit. That really is junk. There are some very nice units in the $100-$150.00 range that are modest as far as not having a bunch of flashy graphics and crap but also match the interior illumination and have so many nice multimedia options like USB and aux input on the faceplate with full speed iPod controls.
A HU upgrade is a nice step up from the stock CD player as far as a giving the stock amp a cleaner signal and having alot more user friendly multimedia options.

Just installed my JVC KD-A305 and love it; it was relatively cheap (under $150) and definitely a step up over the stock head unit. I also just got the auxilary input but it's just fine for my ipod since I always carry it with me!

Since nobody else has pointed it out yet, your shuffle will most certainly work with the auxiliary adapters available for use with the factory Monsoon head unit. First of all, your iPod has a 1/8" stereo jack (1/4" jacks are the ones used on electric guitars, etc.). You can buy a simple 1/8" stereo to dual RCA adapter cable from Radio Shack for just a couple of bucks. That will allow you to connect the iPod to the RCA jacks on the auxiliary adapters such as the GM9-AUX.
Not that I don't agree that an aftermarket HU will give you better sound and more features... I just wanted you to be aware of your options. The biggest problem may be that none of those iPod sepcific or auxiliary adapters are likely to work with your '99 radio unless it's a cassette or it was made very late in the model year.
