Default Cutout Switch Options--Wiring concern

I have an E-Cutout that I'm about to install this Sunday. I haven't bought a switch for it yet.
I want to use a rocker switch; something like this: http://www.radioshack.com/search/ind...odsInSession=1
These are 3 Pin, and there are four wires coming off the cutout plate (Red, White, Green, & Black).

How would I wire these onto the 3-pin rocker switch?

I appreciate the help.

None of those switches will work. You have to get a switch that's center off. Otherwise, you would only have open and close, so the motor would be getting voltage in one direction all the time. Also, you'll want something that's momentary (as in it comes back to center on it's own, so you can't accidentally leave it one).

You need something more like:

Thanks, Jimbo.
Damn, that things hideous So it must be 6-pin? Does it need to return to the middle position? I don't mind it being left open really

Tried finding exactly what you need, but it depends on the style you want. Search for a DPDT (on)-off-(on) rocker switch. That stands for dual pole, dual throw, momentary on-center off-momentary on(up is say open when u let go it goes to off position, down is say closed when u let go it goes to off position.)

What I'm looking for is something like this, that looks stock, discreet & flush.

Yes. They do make them in a round rocker switch--check out emblem pros on here they have switch plates that have the round switches in them. you may be able ot buy just the switch from them.

Thanks for the thought about EmblemPros. While I've heard good things about them, I doubt I'd be able to get it before Sunday though

Random thought (could just be that it's late, so forgive me if this is silly, but):
Can I wire this straight to the "Seek" Button on the Steering Wheel controls? (I have an aftermarket headunit, so the steering wheel controls don't do anything anymore)

yes and no. Yes because anything is possible. No in the sense of its not a simple connect a wire. All the steering wheel control buttons send a signal through a single wire. Different resistances for the different buttons result in the different functions. They make units that interpret these for aftermarket radios, but u would need a device to inerpret the signal and give you a useable output for each button. {i.e. on signal wire in to the device that decodes what button u pressed and gives either a positive or negative output to one of a handful of outputs, so u could connect everything to a few relays and control it that way}

Ok you sparked my interest so much i havebeen researching this. I actually found a piece that will do exactly what i just said. [This site here]. That site has a converter that reads the button pressed and outputs to a pir of wires(8 pairs total). So u would hook the open to a relay that is triggered by the seek up output and the down to a relay that is triggered by the seek down output. Best news is it is made for f-bodies. Ignore what he talks about using it on a remote, because thats not what you are going to do with it.

Another thought. If you really want something that's stock, you could use a window switch. Its a momentary DPDT. All you'd have to do is scratch the screen printed symbols off.

There are also other companies on the web that sell your radio shack style switch in the type you need. (You'll just have to wait for it.)

If you are interested in going this route, I have info on how to get the electrical connectors that engage the pins on the back of the switch.

I copied JasonWW's idea and wired up my cutout switch to a convertible top switch. Looks completely stock. Here's a link to his thread:

Using the convertible switch looks alright, but I just mounted my switch in the ashtray/change holder right behind the cup holder in the center console. You can't see anything at all unless I open up that little door.

So, how do I wire this thing up...?

Ended up with a switch like this (below) and decided to hide it in the ashtray.

There are 4 wires coming off of the cutout--Red, White, Green, Black.
From messing around with the wires, I've learned that Red to Negative & Green to Positive will OPEN the cutout. Red to Positive & Green to Negative will CLOSE the cutout.
I don't know what the black or white wires do.

How do I wire this all up to the 6 prongs on the back of the switch?

Traditionally, Red=Positive, Black=Negative. So I would try wiring those up like that, despite what your outcomes already were. Then the white and green wires go to the cutout. White could be for open, green could be for close, or vice-versa. Either way should work fine.
