New Kit for the Birds

I have ordered low beams and fogs. One of the best things I have done. Great bang for your buck. Just find the bulb your camaro uses and order it. You can also go here for info http://www.hidplanet.com/

Ok so I installed my LMC housings without HIDs, I decided to go a different direction. Ended up using Toshiba HIR 9006 and 9007 bulbs.
These are not quite as bright as HIDs but they are a vast improvement over the stock 4701 and 4703 sealed beams and/or other typical 9006, 9007 bulbs with sealed beam conversions.
Comparison between the HIR bulb vs other 9006 bulbs.
Standard 9006 halogen (low beam): 1000 lumens, 800 hour rated life
Sylvania 9006 Xtravision (low beam): 1060 lumens, 300 hour rated life
GE 9006 Nighthawk (low beam): 1150 lumens, 250 hour rated life
Toshiba HIR 9006 (low beam): 1800 lumens, 800 hour rated life
Sylvania 9006 Silverstar (low beam): 910 lumens, 150 hour rated life
A brief description on how they work.
"HIR" - halogen infrared reflecting. They work by reflecting the invisible infrared rays that all halogen bulbs produce back into the filament, making it burn brighter than a regular bulb.
A brief story about these bulbs.
From what I understand these were initially designed by GE for John Deer and are now licensed to Toshiba.
I also ended up installing a relay harness wired directly to the battery post next to the fuse box within the driverside engine compartment.
Also in order for the bulbs to fit, it was required to cut a good amount from the headlight buckets. ( shown in the pictures below ).
The Sony camera I used isn't doing much justice for these pictures and video clip below. They are much whiter in real life.
( Perhaps it's my camera settings ).
Small video clip from my trip to Texas on the first week of June 2010.
( Highbeams and foglights turned on ).

As far as cheap good quality HIDs I have been using 9006 Slim HIDs they can be found on EBAY. They have been in my Acura Integra for over 2 years with no problems. I use the 9006 in all 4 of my rides. They can be found for less than 60 bucks just a thought before you go spending 130 bucks on "Higher quality HIDS" Unless you spend the 500 bones on a real set of HIDs or steal them off a C6 Vette your getting the cheaper quality stuff anyway.

I did the same as stanger too.. I just put some nice HID and have been blinding everything in front and on the sides of my bird. Next is the HID, but regardless the upgrades our lights on these cars seem to upgrade on a regular to something better and brighter... I say do the HID's.

Hey guys, I've been looking at various threads on here and just wanted to make sure that I'm thinking in the right direction before I order an HID kit. My plan is to use the LMC headlights (36-0302 & 36-0303), now I know that for the lowbeam headlights I'd need to use 9006 bulbs but what about the highs?

I have been wanting to do the HID conversion, just waiting for the cash. If I stay with the 35w HID bulbs in the fogs and lows, I don't have to get the extra wiring harness that is advertised? I was also thinking of doing the LMC housings and staying with the highbeam bulb they provide, no HID. Do I need the extra harness for those? They looked like 55w bulbs, unless I read it wrong.

help with link to LMC for the housings
It's probably user error but i cant seem to locate the housing on the LMCTRUCK site. Can someone give me an updated link or something. all it gives me is diffrent choices of trucks (duh) but which model and year. It doesn't want to let me go to a list of headlight housings. I'm trying to upgrade headlights and fogs on a 99TA.. Anything user friendly would help.

I did some quick searching on Google and their website. It looks like its on page 65 of their "1988-1998 Chevrolet and GMC Truck" catalog. "150mm headlight". They are labeled as Inner/Outer instead of High/Low. Inner should be High and Outer should be Low.
Can those who bought it confirm that it is the one they bought?

Hey Danny2tek, You seem to be on the pulse with this topic. I'm new to the site and I'm on info overload when it comes to the HID kits. (I think I've read every thread) I checked out the " DDMT " site but I'm not sure what to order there for my low beams and fogs. I think I want the higher color temp 8000 +.. but that's about all I've figured outso far. Can you give me any specific recommendations on what kit(s) to buy there (or anyplace else for that matter)...?
