I have the same deal right now...mine rattles the back pretty good as well as the hatch. I think some dynamat behind the hatch release will probably help a good bit. Im not too sure about the actual hatch though, but I am thinking it can probably be taken apart and some dynamat can be stuffed up there. If you figure anything out or find something that works really good post it up for us.

Try sounddeadning. It works wonders.

Go to www.dynamat.com . Buy in bulk. You'll need it.

don't waste your funds on the namebrand stuff - most sound-deadener is asphault-based. yep, dynamat wants hundreds of dollars for a few square feet of sticky asphault. bah. there are, fortunately, a slew of equally effective alternatives.

me, i've had success with RaamMat60 (http://www.raamaudio.com/products.htm). the stuff goes on easily and sticks like cobweb. it's thick, and some of the cheapest available, to boot.
another is BrownBread (http://www.b-quiet.com/brownbread.html).

if lining your quick sports car with weighty asphault strikes you as counter-productive, you could use sound-deadening foam. it comes in cans. it won't work as well as asphault, though, and it'll end up costing more than a mail-order bride.

i lined my entire trunk with RaamMat60. i threw 800watts into a fine and capable sub and the only rattle i get comes from the bottom plate of my component amp. have your boyfriend install the stuff for you - sound-deadening may work miracles, but you pay your penance through the install process alone.

hell on earth, i tells ya.

one thing i neglected to mention: you may be able to kill the bulk of your rattles just by soundproofing that big plastic piece on the hatch, the piece that your subs probably fire up into (hell, simply removing it until my soundproofing arrived did the job for me). it'd be a little easier to start with that piece instead of jumping in and doing a full trunk job - that way, you may find that a minimal amount of work will rid your car of a satisfactory amount of rattles. hooray.

Just remember, a little Dynamat can go a long way if you just apply it where you get rattles... sometimes there's no need to use it EVERYWHERE. I have a few pieces of Dynamat here and there, and I'm finding I can just apply more if more rattling occurs.

I did my entire car in Dynamat (floor, trunk, A-pillars, firewall, doors, T-top bollsters, sail panels, etc.) and it is now quieter than any other car on the road. was worth it. It can really make a difference in the way you hear your music.

There is something else, a lot of the time it is just the license plate or the frame around it. I put a thin piece of cardboard (more like thick paper) behind the plate and that stopped in from vibrating. Some other noise was coming from the spare tire area. I pulled the tire and accessories out to check, and sure enough noise was coming from there too. Since I have AAA, I decided not to put it back in.

First try removing the license plat and the spare tire stuff. See if that helps before dropping money into sound dampening.

Yes, Sound dampening works both ways. It keeps outside noise out and inside noise in. But you also have to weigh the price and extra weight for that little extra noise dampening.

SS Girl, it set me back a little over $350.00. I didn't mind the cost. I'm not one of those that need to make sure that people three blocks away can hear the base line for "Baby Got Back." I prefer my music to sound the same at 30 dB as it does at 102 dB. Balance is the key.

It's nice to have only 37 dB of road noise, on Eagle GS-C tires, no less!
