trunk randomly opens?

trunk randomly opens? Have a problem recently where the hatch will randomly pop itself when i'm driving, if the car is sitting off etc... If i'm driving sometimes it just pops, if I have it parked it will pop sometimes which sets off the alarm. Tried disconnecting the switch on the knee panel and it did the same thing. I have the mechanism in the hatch disconnected right now since it's a dd and I can't afford to have it randomly opening. Any ideas?
The BCM should keep the hatch from popping when you are driving and your emergency brake is off. (For a 6 speed.) So, if your BRAKE light is off, and your hatch pops while you are driving, I'd say that you probably have a short in the wiring that's causing the latch to pop. (In other words, the BCM/button isn't sending the command.)

ooh, I was actually assuming the two were related and that the brake light was on due to the abs inop. As in a "brake system" "abs inop".

The ABS might be solved by replacing the brake switch thats connected to the brake pedal, same thing happened to my old Z28, real quick fix.

The "BRAKE" light illuminates for several different reasons. One of them is when the e-brake is on.
If you e-brake is truly off, then the e-brake switch (on the handle mechanism) is probably bad. (This is a common problem.) The car "thinks" the e-brake is on as a result and you are probably brushing against the hatch release button or hitting a bump, etc. and the BCM "thinks" its OK to pop the hatch in that situation.

Definitely wasn't an accidental brush against the button. Since even with the car parked and off the hatch would randomly pop.

Before you go chasing ghosts, you should probably check the e-brake switch, just for kicks. It just takes the time required to take the center console out and can be done with a simple continuity tester. If that switch is good, then you must have a short in the circuit between the BCM and the trunk release or a bad latch mechanism.
