Common issue on the '99 cars, GM issued TSB 99-08-49-009 to replace the gauge cluster. Shouldn't do it with good battery voltage though. Did you relocate the battery? It's at least a 690 CCA?

finally someone has heard of this! ive been round and round with this. i have a spare cluster i will try it out. yes i relocated the battery. it did it last time i relocated the battery which is why i put it back up front. thought maybe i had crappy wires. knowing i have good wires now and its still doing it. the battery is a optima red top 1000 cca.

but i do have a charging issue i cant locate so maybe this is contributing.

Mine did it on my 98 ws6 for the longest dam time, i checked everything with no results. Turns out my negative cable on my battery was loose and was the cause.....check it out.

sometimes the easiest/simplest solution is the right one. I'd check everything from the battery on back for a loose connection. If you have the radio ... are presets reset as well??

I'll chime in here....EVERY time this has happened on my 99Z, I did all the same things y'all are doing..try this, try that. It has always been fixed by REPLACING my battery. I dunno why , as the batteries had good voltage (with DMM) while off, and while running, but I don't remember if I ever checked what the voltage drop was while cranking the engine.

Again, replace your battery= problem solved. (Oh, and what kind of charging issue are you having?)

brand new battery. thats not it.

at idle i only have 11.0-11.2 volts. its been an issue for awhile. i cant find it. i have 4 alternaters on my bench trying to fix it. tried 3 batteries. rewired all the grounds and power to alt, fuse/ relay junction, battery. still an issue. its a little btter then it was. im getting 12.8-13.0 volts while driving it was around 12.4-12.5. last time at the track it dropped all the way to 9.0 during my nitrous passes turning the spray off completely. on motor it was dropping to 10.8.

my car is possesed.
