CD changer "Err"

CD changer "Err" I see a lot of posts talking about specific error codes,
but my situation is different.
CD changer was working fine. Haven't swapped out
discs in many months.
The other week I noticed the left side audio going out
sometimes when I hit rough pavement. This seemed to
only involve the changer, if I switched to FM the sound
was there.
Now the changer won't play, just a momentary "Err"
on the display and then it goes to head unit CD. The
"Aux" button has no effect.
Have ejected & reinsterted the caddy, have pulled the
changer connector, no luck, same deal. The audio
from other sources remains fine.
