Default New sub install

I am almost 40 years old and I just installed my first REAL sub. I installed a single JL 12w3 in a custom box in the well. It all sounds good but now I have rattles with the rear tail lights and the center piece between them (forgot the name of the piece). What have you used to hush the rattles back there? I am think about putting some type of thin foam between the lights and the body.

Any ideas or tips for this?

Can dynamat be used outside the car? Is it ok if it gets wet?

If it gets wet i'd most likely assume the adhesive would be worthless then. Where would it go on the outside?

Any sound deadener will help that. You need to remove the rear hatch carpet and apply the Deadener to that location from the inside. I have trunk kits from Stinger Roadkill and Hushmat that I will be carrying in place of the Dynamat stuff. Dynamat has priced themselves out of my market. They went up on pricing and the product is still the same.

I would not place it outside the vehicle although it could probably be ok...you want it to insulate from the inside as intended. That will take are of your rattle.

You can try a roll of adhesive weather stripping. Just trim it down to as thin as you need it.

Company out of Ohio called Fatmat. I have done sound quality for numerous years and have used dynamax extreme in every vehicle except my GTP. I tried Fatmat and it worked very very well. You may need to double up on some area but for the price its definately worth it. Fatmat does have an odor that last about 3 days as where dynamat doesnt but it does go away. Check ebay for Fatmat vendors.

Folks, I think he's talking about putting it between the tailights and the body...where it's going to be exposed to the elements. Would these deadening mats work/be effective outside of the vehicle? I'm curious now too.

I have placed mine on the backside on license plates. Have had no problems with elements there. You can heat the material up with a heat gun to help the install but be aware that its a major pain to remove.
