honnks twice when armed
I'd say something is off. Generally youd have 1 honk/chirp/flash for lock and 2 for unlock, thats standard for OEMs and aftermarket units. If you have your owners manual, double check the settings on the system, if not search the board for the procedure, it involves removing the radio fuse, using your ignition, and lock/unlock buttons.

mine is completely OEM and it always honks twice when i press the lock button once (which means locked and armed) and if i press the lock button again it only honks once (which means just locked)

My 98 honks twice as long as everything is closed. If my deck lid is not completely closed it will only honk once, also if the car is locked and I open the trunk when I close it again it will honk once. has been like that since I bought it in 97.

This is how it's supposed to work. Also, if it's already armed and if I push the button again twice it will honk once.
It should do 2 quick honks when armed. 1 quick if a door or the hatch is not shut.
If it's 2 long honks with lights, the shock sensor may be bad from what I was told, that is the same sound it makes if some one bumps your car while armed. Mine will also do 2 long honks with lights if I hit the lock button again after arming it, not sure if that's correct though lol!

I did what Cripsy said using a PDF Pontiac Owners Manual for my car. I set mine up so it honks twice when I arm it and it just flashes the lights when I disarm it. I could've made it just flash lights for both, but I wanted to hear it as I walk away from the car.
