DO NOT TRUST YOUR ESCORT 9500ix to pick up LASER

Sorry to say but absolutely no detector is going to protect you from a laser. Most police departments use Instant on lidar now so they aim and it goes instant on. Boom your caught. Only way a detector will protect you is if it catches a laser scatter off another car which is unlikely. Detectors are best with Radar enough said. But they don't protect you 100%.

I had a 9500 and it did pretty well for me but never picks up laser in time really. I've had 3 speeding tickets and only 1 was from laser, 1 from a cop driving the other way and one "heard" me, bobbed and weaved through traffic caught up to me while I was doing 60 in a 60 and said I did 80, but he "cut" me a break and wrote it for 70, then he proceeded to be a young cocky *** hole to me. I have no idea how he said I was going that fast it was rush hour and there were cars everywhere and I know I didn't break 70. Anyways you guys should look into K-40 they have lots of positive reviews from radar testers, they have front and rear detectors that go on your bumpers so there suppose to be much better at picking up laser. just a thought

I replaced it with the Passport SR7 remote that seems to have all the advantages (external mount, front and rear sensors, discrete inside head unit) without the disadvantages of the K40. It also has available laser jammers although I haven't tried them so I can't comment on their effectiveness.

K40 does also have available laser jammers but don't know their effectiveness either. Is the Passport SR7 a newer unit? I have not seen it that I can remember and I've done a lot of research on them

Actually, the SR7 is an older (now discontinued) detector that currently resides in my wife's SUV. It has been replaced by the SRX which is the same thing but includes the laser "shifters" (jammers) as part of the kit. Since I didn't want the laser shifters, I installed the Beltronics RX75 Pro in my T/A. It is virtually identical to the SR7 except for small differences in the remote head unit (Escort and Beltronics are one company now):

The rear sensor attaches to the license plate bolts. I put the front sensor at the bottom of the front plate opening where it is almost invisible (it's the dark bar below the screaming chicken logo):

SR7, SRX, RX75, and the new QI-45 all use the same horn design and you can expect the same performance. This same horn (S7) is used in the older 8500 X50, and has been replaced by the M4 horn design. The m4 is not as sensitive on off axis and most people who are radar detector geeks like myself prefer the older S7.

As far as lidar jamming the SRX and even the new 9500ci are fairly poor. The Laser Interceptor or newest Blinder is the only way to go. The Laser Pro Park works well too, slightly behind the other two.
I had the Pro Park and I couldn't get a reading on my black 300m (former daily driver) with 3 different brands of lidar units.

LIDAR is always "instant-on". Always has been since the original LTI Marksman and Pro Laser 1

Are you sure? I installed the QI45 in my new Mustang and the external sender looked identical to the SR7 unit. Of course they are sealed units and could be quite different inside but externally they appear to be the same part.
BTW, I just got back from a 2400 mile trip using the QI45 and I was quite pleased with its performance.

Got my second ticket today from an officer that used a laser gun. Funny part was my $500 Escort 9500ix Radar/Laser detector never picked them up. Ok, now I understand the Laser is a very concentrated beam and they often aim for your LP or headlights and it may not hit the detector, but today, I asked the officer to laser me right in front of my car, guess what, the detector didn't do ****! He stuck the gun all the way up to my windshield 3 inches from the detector and and after holding it there for over 10 seconds, it lit up and said LASER for a brief second and we couldn't get it to pick up the laser after that. Now Escort claims these thing are made to pick up the threat before it can get you and when it comes to Radar, I fully agree but not with laser. I called Escort today about the issue and was told my detector was most likely working right but it is very hard to pick up laser. WTF, this is part of why I bought this thing and now Im on the phone with them and they are telling me basically that their product doesn't work as advertised. So just a word to the wise, don't buy this detector and think you are safe from Laser, it doesn't work! If anyone else has had similar experiences, I would love to hear about it.

Laser Interceptor for the win. I run it on my G8. Read reviews... doesn't matter what gun, it will get JTG (jam to gun - meaning they will never, ever get a speed) performance every time. Well, in my case it will do that as long as they're in front of me as I only installed it on the front.
